ALL GIRL POP/ROCK.......
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Power Pop
Details:
Hold on tight. The Skirts have smashed the sky, and it's falling in glorious, beautiful pieces. There are stars, comets, clouds, lightning and rainbows crashing to the ground and the soundtrack is a thunder like we've never heard. First and foremost, this is a rock n' roll record. There are big chunks of pop and a bit of '77 punk strewn about, but this record is truly rock n' roll in the best possible way. It's tight, melodic, fuzzy and muscular, but best of all, it is sticky. The song selection is strong. Seamlessly running through emotions and textures, it is a rollercoaster ride that you just don't want to get off. The influences are there, a bit of Blondie, some PJ Harvey, 80's metal and dare I say it, The Beachboys. But the influences are incorporated in such a way that it doesn't feel cheap or calculated. This is simply a record that isn't afraid to speak and feel. Musically adventurous and lyrically smart, each listen reveals layers of depth. Make no mistake, The Skirts have hit their stride. They have collectively pooled their talents and realized their vision. The crisp and heavy production of this album reveals strong musicianship, brilliant vocals, and all of the subtle and not-so-subtle elements that make for a great album. Sure, it rocks, but more than that, it's brave. The Skirts have the courage to reach down and give us their best. Unafraid to fully commit themselves to "the song". And for that, we should be thankful.
