Nirvana-like, "Lo Fi" punk rock with some elements of grunge.
15 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Punk, ROCK: Grunge
Details:
Formed in late 1999 in the basement of drummer Joe Berkley's house, Joe and guitarist Brent Matney formed the core of The Sky Remembers. Without a lead singer or additional musicians, they began to perform original music as well as cover songs while searching to fill out their line-up. With the addition of Dave Delida on bass guitar, the band went into a practice then record phase, creating a small personal demo. Years later, the band line-up remained virtually unchanged with the exception of lead vocalists, which changed several times over the five year span. But it was during these years the band explored the vast possibilities of intermitting various sounds and fusing different genres of music into an anagram of songs. The Sky Remembers uses various sounds but doesn't lose that core rock element evident in the "in-your-face" choruses.
The tracks are upbeat, fun, and interesting and often contrasting to the darker, introspective lyric material. The Sky Remembers has cultivated punk, hardcore, and pop to deliver a surreal transport to a diverse landscape and creates a unique appeal to the album. Not that they redefine any particular sound, but they handle each attempt well with a simple rawness, yet still professional sound. In a time when being distinctive is becoming more and more difficult, The Sky Remembers shines through admirably and stands out among the rest. Within their punk-rock genre, they're creative, but have yet to define what that genre is- not the typical garage band, not the cryptic hardedge but a welcome in-between.
Joe Berkley currently lives and works in San Diego, CA and plans to pursue music projects in the future. Check out Brent Matney's current solo project, Jovian Oblivion, here on CDbaby at www.cdbaby.com/jovianoblivion.
