Taking an acoustic approach to emo music, Sketches With No Drawing displays raw emotion, both happy and sad, through his lyrics, voice, and guitar without whining into the mic with too many cliche one-liners - you'll be singing the choruses in no time.

ROCK: Emo, ROCK: Acoustic
Details:
My name is Brian and Iâve been playing guitar for quite sometime and singing for as long as I can remember. It all started back in my parentsâ cars on vacations, but the more I sang, the more I liked to sing. When I picked up the guitar, I decided that I needed to be in a band, but even being here in Austin, thatâs a harder task than youâd think. I had friends that played guitar and drums and bass and all that, but nothing could ever pan out. I knew that I had to just start playing acoustic guitar more than anything else.
Acoustic guitar became my passion. I started playing it more and more and getting better at it with each time I played it. So, I started writing songs. Iâm going to be honest, the first ones sucked really badly. And, I was still writing songs like the ones I was listening to (like Blink or TBS or Weezer). Once I ventured around the guitar neck a little bit more, I started using a capo every now and then. This led to better songs that sounded really good, and really full on an acoustic guitar. I even went through and wrote a song in Open âaâ tuning. It was a stretch, but something I felt needed to happen.
Eventually, after I had been playing more often, I started writing more guitar parts for songs, because, letâs be honest, I wanted to be in a band still. So, I had multiple guitar parts or multiple vocal parts that were overlaid to give a fuller sound. This quickly became a problem. But, I was out at a show and I noticed that this guy playing by himself and I kept hearing more than one guitar part and couldnât figure out what was going on. I went closer to the stage and noticed that he had a looping pedal for his guitar. I had to get one to keep up with what I was writing. Aside from backing vocal parts during versus, or âwhoaâsâ during choruses, I can recreate every song live just like it sounds on the CD. Speaking of the CD, I recorded it in my living room on my computer. Itâs got 14 songs, 12 different songs and 2 âdance remixes.â
I go by Sketches With No Drawing because I donât want to go by my name. Not that I donât like my name, but I think that a âband nameâ will stick in peopleâs minds better than an ambiguous personâs name. So, being a solo act, I wasnât sure what would be a good name. I started thinking about band names that I had in my head, but nothing really stuck. As I was really going through, hardcore thinking about band names, Manatee was breaking up. I was so enrapt in Manateeâs music that I decided to pick a lyric from one of their songs so they would live on a little bit more, too. There was a song on their CD where the line is, âAnd weâre only sketches with no drawing, and we measure each day while singing the refrain.â The words âSketches With No Drawingâ really stuck out in my mind and that was how I got the name.
I hope you enjoy the music...spread the word.
