ABOUT THIS CD

"A Night Of Unknown Death Or Life" is a collection of short ambient, jazz, noise, & atonal guitar pieces by Scrote from various sessions & soundtracks. though appearing here and there in projects, none have been available on CD before now. the music aims to turn from beautiful to disturbing then back again.

most are left-of-center electric, acoustic, & nylon string guitar pieces though you will also hear mandolin, bass, recorders, and various percussion on a couple tracks as well as guest violinist Joan Ling on "Glass Angels Visited". all pieces were written, performed, recorded, and produced by Scrote.

ABOUT SCROTE

After a year heavily under the influence of bebop trumpeter Pat Harbison, Scrote continued studying jazz and then earned a Bachelors in 20th Century Composition under experimental music maestro Larry Austin at the University of North Texas. Now as a guitarist (and sometimes bassist), he divides his performance time between wildly varying live shows for artists in several cities and recording sessions for major and indie labels. His playing has been featured on CDs, independent films, TV/radio internationally, dance pieces, movie trailers, etc...

He has worked with such innovators as: Myles Boisen, Mark Batson, Jessica Lurie, Karl Derfler, Amy Denio, Fred Frith, Dave Palmer, Mark Needham, Jay Bellerose, Carla Kihlstedt, The Billy Nayer Show, Ralph Carney, Earl Harvin, Aaron Reiff, Robby Virus, Steve Nalepa, Wire Graffiti, Phyllis Addison, and DJ Jon Von among others.

He currently plays on & off with many of the groups & artists above as well as: David Garza, The Radishes, The Freak Accident, scr011, Holly Palmer, Mitch Marine, Paul Chesne, Onostatic, The Fuxedos, Rob Shrock, UFM, Bitches Brew, Invisible College, and many more...

Fronting his own original electro latin punk group Baby Snufkin, Scrote toured the US and Europe extensively for years on bills with the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Primus, Reverend Horton Heat, and Pere Ubu plus a sold out European arena tour with No Doubt.

Scrote has produced Baby Snufkin recordings for labels such as Unkulunkie Records, Heyday Records, and numerous compilations. He also produced Wire Graffiti's last release for Hand Wash Music, two releases for Casino Royale for Double Play Records & Varese Sarabande/Universal, The Radishes with Mark Needham mixing, and a video mix & European radio single of 'Chinese Phrasebook' by The Freak Accident for Alternative Tentacles/Konkurrel.

For tv & film, Scrote has produced music for the award-winning documentary 'Right Road Lost' by Victoria Gamburg (Gamburg Films), the indie French film 'Kidnapping', and the movie 'Just Friends' by Michelle Ortega (Hippie Chick Flicks) as well as music for A&E, PBS, CNN, and theatre trailers for the Lunafest Film Festival, SF's 24th Anniversary Film Festival, and the Film Arts Foundation.
