Details:
Houston singer/songwriter and guitarist Pete Scafidi is a natural-born performer. âEven as a kid,â Pete says, âI always wanted to be the one onstage. So before I could play guitar, I used my sense of humor as a way to entertain my friends and classmates.â
Mastering the guitar as a teenager, Pete has been entertaining audiences in Austin and Houston for more than 12 years, playing with several bands and performing his original work as a solo act.
Pete has now recorded his first full-length CD, a self-titled album. Though the songs were originally written and performed on acoustic guitar, the CD features a full backing band. The disc was produced by Houston mixing guru Steve Christensen of Sugarhill Studios, who has worked with Destinyâs Child and Clay Walker, and mastered by Jeff Lipton of Peerless Mastering in Boston. âWith so many layered guitar tracks â including a âNashvilleâ-tuned guitar on the song âLullaby,â Steveâs experience really came through,â Pete says.
Born in Chile and raised in the U.S., Pete claims musical influences from both continents. His unique blend of folk, rock, and blues is tinged with a Spanish style, and his versatility reflects an early exposure to acts ranging from Fats Domino to ABBA to GunsâNâRoses.
In fact, Peteâs obsession with guitar started after seeing the Guns'N'Roses video for "Welcome to the Jungle" as a teenager. âThat video was so mean, evil, and scary â it had me totally hooked on playing music!â Pete says. For five years, he studied guitar with Paul Lidell (Dangerous Toys, Dirty Looks, Austin Guitar School) and took voice lessons from Donna Menthal in Austin.
Pete has fulfilled his dream of being a working musician and still loves to use his sense of humor to help connect with the audience during the shows.
