Details:
The word yorubeat is derived from the Yoruba people of Nigeria. The traditional music of the Yorubas, the talking drums, African percussion, waka, Fuji, Apala and juju are mixed with western music styles such as pop, jazz, funk, and classical music. The drum pattern that is placed in yorubeat music takes its influence from both African and western drum patterns. The strongest accent is on the last beat rather than the first beat and the drum rhythms are mostly offbeat. The yorubeat style was created and named by the Nigerian saxophonist Tunday Akintan during his studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.
