This project is the perfect marriage between two of my loves, making beats and the HBO television series The Wire. If you mess with the Wire and dope beats, this album is right up your alley.
16 MP3 Songs in this album (52:19) !
Related styles: Hip-Hop/Rap: Beat Tape, Instrumental
People who are interested in DJ Premier J Dilla Pete Rock should consider this download.
Details:
Philadelphia music producer and writer Kil has been a hip hop head since 1984, when his mother took him to see the movie Beat Street. That movie started his love, passion and pursuit of the hip hop culture. He began writing rhymes in â84 and started Djing in '86 when he got his two turntables, a mixer and a mic. Daily, Kil would practice his craft. Whether it was break dancing, DJing or MCing, his commitment to hip hop was undeniable. It wasnât until his freshmen year at Morgan State University where he truly found his place in hip hopâ¦producing. Starting off with a Tascam 4 track recorder and a Gemini 8 second sampler mixer, then, graduating to the Ensoniq ASR-10 keyboard to now mastering the Akai MPC 2000XL, Kilâs style has grown from being just a beat maker to becoming a complete music producer. Also, while attending Morgan State, Kil hosted Baltimoreâs 1 hip hop show âStrictly Hip Hopâ on WEAA 88.9 FM every Friday night from midnight to 5am for over 5 years. Kil has produced for such artists as K Fanat (former Hydra Records signee, producing his debut album "Right Back At It"), Brooklyn MC, Vegas (producing both of his albums "The Grey Area" and "You're All Welcome"), Philadelphia MC, Driz Lo (producing his entire album "The Missing Element" coming 2012), Baltimore MC Lunchboxx (producing his entire album "The Discipline" coming 2012), C. Clear (Kil produced 4 tracks off her debut CD âA Soldierâs Storyâ), Osei Morland (acclaimed MC and Producer), Queens MC, Sekani (writer of MTVâs Hip Hopera âCarmenâ) as well as working with talented songwriters such as Sean âMochaâ Banks (Dru Hill, Black Buddafly) and Tanya Kilpatrick. Kil also produced âRude Bastardsâ for critically acclaimed hip hop group M.O.P. for their 5th official studio album âFoundation."
Here's some feedback for Kil's first "Through the Wire An Instrumental Album Inspired by HBO's The Wire" project:
âClassic instrumental album! It was like I was transported into the rough streets of Baltimore. I recommend the album to fans of the show and real Hip Hop.â Final Score: 5 outta 5â â Illmuzik.com
âThese beats go hard!â â KevinNottingham.com
âThereâs special attention paid to scope, with whole scenes from the show rolling-out overtop his production; itâs almost like heâs re-scoring his favorite moments from the show.â â Baltimore City Paper
âThis is an instrumental, concept album laced with clips from the show as well as samples from street Hip Hop artists that are thoughtfully placed throughout to relate the instrumental itâs on. This doesnât feel like every other Wire rip off out there. Itâs a collection of beats that has a classic vibe to it but doesnât sound dated.â â Undersoundmusic.net
âARE YOU FUCKINâ SERIOUS? A MIXTAPE CONSISTING OF HIP-HOP BEATS AND SAMPLES FROM THE WIRE, THE BEST SHOW TO EVER HIT THE TV? YâALL ARE SO CRAZY FOR THIS ONE.â â Weworemasks.com
âThe concept behind this is brilliant. Taking my favorite genre, hip hop and combining it with my second favorite show ever, The Wire, and making a sample filled excursion of the two is just awesome.â â NothingSoundsBetter.com
âI was a little reluctant at first listen but it is a dope idea/concept. Kil is able to capture the feel of the show through each track on the album. 22 tracks for anyone is no small task, let alone 22 conceptual tracks that are actually good. Think about it like this - your favorite rap artist doesn't give you 22 tracks on an album. But, if he did, picture him giving you a great product with all the beats from the same producer and they all fit his project. That's amazing if you ask me. So, if you are a fan of "The Wire" you should check it out and if you are artist looking for some work, check it out and hit him up. Without question, this dude has talent.â â Music Is Life Magazine
âOne of the grittiest TV series of our generation, skillfully matched with some of the slickest, REAL hip hop production Iâve heard in years. Through The Wire is dope! 5 MPCâs outta 5" -DJ Kyle "Koz" LaRue, Cox Radio Orlando, TenShareMedia.com
âThis project is very enjoyable and it introduces the audience to the production range of Kil. This project is pieced together very well and you can tell that Kil was meticulous in regards to selecting the best sound bytes and beats to match the sound bytes from the Wire.â â Praverb.net
âOne of the main reason we started Beat Tape Wednesdays was this project right here. The homie brought two of his hobbies together, which is the critical acclaimed TV show The Wire and making beats and the two come together beautifully. And if I didnât mention before, these beats bang!â â The Concrete Floor
