Details:
Songwriter, singer, and bassist Kimon Kirkâs first full-length album, Songs For Society, was released on September 8th, 2011. Over the last several years Kimon has played the bass and provided harmony vocals for such artists as Aimee Mann, Grant Lee Phillips, Amy Correia, and Ramona Silver, and was an original member of Session Americana, winners of a 2005 Boston Music Award. Songs For Society was recorded in Kirkâs old and new hometowns of Boston and Los Angeles and was mixed by noted producer Paul Q. Kolderie and his cohorts at Camp Street Studios. The album is something of a pop-music throwback, touching on themes that range from the old west to 40â²s jazz, while remaining a rock nâ roll effort at heart. It includes songs written with former 'Til Tuesday frontwoman Mann (the Nick Lowe-inspired âNot Where Iâm Atâ), and David Champagne and Jim Fitting, both of whom founded the seminal Boston band Treat Her Right. Mann, Champagne, and Fitting all make guest appearances on the album, whose core band consists of Kirk on bass and vocals, keyboard wizard Jamie Edwards, from Mannâs band, on everything from piano to mellotron, young six-string phenom Lyle Brewer, of Sarah Borges and Ryan Mountbleauâs bands, on lead guitar, and Mannâs longtime drummer and Boston studio legend John Sands, who provides the albumâs swinging backbeat and drive. The recordâs performances brim with melody, musicality and style and hearken to an era when pop music encompassed myriad genres â an age when rock nâ roll, country, jazz, and r&b werenât quite so far apart.
