âDonât Get Me Startedâ â Jim Terr and friends
REVIEWS â¦[Jim Terr has been] described as a modern day Mark Twain, Will Rogers, Jimmie Rodgers and Jackie Mason rolled into one. Can I add to that list names like Shel Silverstein, Tom T. Hall, Bobby Bare, Ray Stevens and the likes--master wordsmiths all, and country boys too. / "Some of the most thoroughly enjoyable tunes I've ever heard...tiny monuments to songwriting...For whatever elements came together to make the genius of Jim Terr and his music happen, we should be truly gleeful, grateful and gratified. / "A cross between Tom Lehrer and Ray Stevens...sorely needed comedy in these uncertain times." -Country Music People (UK). / He shares equal territory with the folksy politicism of Phil Ochs, the sheer songwriting skill of Townes van Zandt, and the shamelessly naive sense of ironic humor of Loudon Wainwright III." / "Jim Terr's spirit shows through consistently in his songs... It's the droll, sardonic, 'cut-the-B.S.' outlook known around the world as American." -James Fallows
Information on recordings: Most of the earlier of these songs were recorded using âBand-in-a-Boxâ sampled tracks at Ricky Recordoâs in Santa Fe, NM, with Rick Mena on guitar, and occasional harmonica, banjo, etc., and Jim Terr on bass on a couple. Newer tracks also recorded â almost entirely- on Band-in-a-Box. Most vocals by Jim Terr, most harmonies by Margaret Burke, some by Marilyn Priddy. Kevin Zoernig plays solo piano on several of the newest songs. âSon of a Rabbi Manâ features Steve Hill, Michael Hearne and Mark Clark. Other background vocals by Lydia Clark, Michael Hearne, Trez Gregory; mandolin by Rich Hardy, keyboards by Alberto Alcocer, and live BuDDy audiences at Tricklockâs Reptilian Lounge, Albuquerque, NM. Apologies to anyone I might have left out here.
Thanks to the many supporters who donated to and invested in these various recordings. Website for Jim Terrâs satire is BlueCanyonSatire-dot-com. Please see that site also, for lyrics, etc.
This work is also supported by sales of fine art prints at MountainDragonfly-dot-com
Jim (and BuDDy) perform custom songs etc. at weddings, parties, conventions and banquets, both corporate and anti-corporate. Many of these songs exist in video form on YouTube, on the HYMIEHYMIE channel. (over 600,000 views as of September, 2011).
We hope to develop âThe Public Campaign Finance Songâ into a comedic stage musical called âThe Canyon Campaignâ to be staged initially in Washington, DC by the summer of 2012. Any inquiries / support are welcome.
Thanks to Thom Hartmann, Jim Bohannon, Dr. Demento, BuzzFlash.com, Mountain Stage, Mike Malloy, NPR, and many other programs, networks, writers, fans and supporters for keeping this all going for so long.
