Original Yiddish Children's Songs by Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman

These original Yiddish children's songs were composed by the poet and composer Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman in the 1960s and 1970s, mainly for the Yiddish folkshuln in NYC and recorded with the best New York Yiddish singers and klezmer musicians in the spring of 2006. Two songs were recorded by the vocal ensemble at the 2005 St. Petersburg Klezfest in Russia.

Arranged by Jeanette Lewicky, Binyumin Schaechter and Lorin Sklamberg this is the first recording in history comprised solely of original Yiddish children's songs from one composer. Some songs relate to Jewish holidays, some to the seasons and others to childrenâs fantasies.

Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman grew up in Chernovitz, Romania, and came to the US in 1951. She has lived in the Bronx since then. In 2005 she was awarded the National Heritage Fellowship by the NEA in Washington. The first time a Yiddish poet and composer was so honored.
