Details:
Mitchell Stone's new "Me, My Guitar, and I" is an album for which Mitch has assembled ten of his best compositions, all of which tell a story...yet which all vary greatly from one another. Here are songs that are tragic, lighthearted, serious, and humorous. Ten songs that deal with admiration...love...and betrayal. Nine tall tales...and one that is, sadly, very real...and deals with murder.
Those who know what a great song is, will call these great songs.
"Caylee" is based on an infamous Florida murder trial. Mitchell Stone wrote it on the morning Casey Anthony freely walked away from prison after being acquitted for the murder of her 2-year-old daugter, Caylee Marie Anthony. It is not intended to be an accusation of guilt against Casey. But listen to the words, and draw your own conclusions.
In "Life is a Song (Tribute to Writers)," Mitch salutes his fellow songwriters...and wonders where the world would be without them.
"Did You Write That Song?" paints the picture of a couple of musicians who know each other well. From the singer's perspective, his friend who takes the stage on the night in the song has something more than music on her mind, and the singer knows it and calls it to her attention: "Did you write that song...or did the song write you?"
"No Lennon McCartney" deals with the fact that, in a love relationship gone bad, "this ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney; we don't have an affair goin' on...might say it is, but even they had a fight."
In "The King and Queen of Victory," two lucky people who've won each other in the game of love, determine that they are, truly, the King of Hearts and the Queen of Hearts - or "The King and Queen of Victory."
"Trunkful of Memories (of You)" is a country-flavored tune in which the singer forsakes social pleasures, like meeting new love interests, in favor of a fondness for cherished mementos from a love gone by.
"Crazy Day" is a song that laments what the singer's lover took with her - besides his heart - when she left his once-well-appointed love nest.
"Your Turn to Shine (The Winners Anthem)" is a unique song that can be used as easily at the Olympics medal-awards ceremony as for any victory celebration or recognition of achievement.
"Lucky Leilani" is a look at jilted love in the islands. It's a song that includes a tongue-in-cheek twist at the end, where Hawaiian is spoken (but - lucky for you - translated in the song's printed lyrics below).
"He Calls Her Pretty" was written on August 16, 2011, the anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley. Although he hadn't thought about this while writing it, as an afterthought Mitchell Stone wondered if it would have been an appropriate song to offer the King of Rock & Roll if he were still around.
"Me, My Guitar, and I" features the words and music of Mitchell Stone. All songs performed by Mitchell Stone.

We all try to live life the best way we can
All try to contribute to the family of man
We all make our way through life every day
But there's one major part of the plan
Life is a song
Without it, things would be wrong
So here's to the writers
Those thought inciters
Who make our world go 'round
Y'know that life is a song and it wouldn't be right
Without those who write that song
Y'know ya work every day 'til you're tired and beat
You're makin' your way through the right and the wrong
One thing you can say that'll make your life sweet
Is what you can say in a song
Because life is a song
Y'know ya sing all day long
But without those writers
There'd be no song
No music to help life go on
God love those writers who write that song
So here's to the lawyers and oil-rig workers
Fire, police, and teachers
And let's not forget the wait staffs and nurses
Doctors, dog walkers, prize fighters
They all make our life so rich indeed
But remember the inspiration we really need
Raise your glass to songwriters
Yeah, life is a song
Without it, things would be wrong
So here's to the writers
Those thought inciters
Who make our world go 'round
Y'know that life is a song and it wouldn't be right
Without those who write that song
Yeah, life is a song
Without it, things would be wrong
So here's to those who write those songs
Yeah here's to the writers who write those songs!

Caylee, who killed you, baby?
The courts say maybe it was Mommy
But they're not sure
If I was Mommy, I'd run like hell
'cause no one likes a child murderer
Caylee, how did you land in the woods
In a garbage bag with duct tape 'round your mouth?
You couldn't win
If I was Mommy, then I'd fly south
So far south, and never come back again
Caylee, when you were gone
Mommy lied, Grandma cried
And Grandpa tried to find you
But your life was behind you
And Mommy left you in the cold
And the world cried for little Caylee
Who killed you baby?
The courts say maybe
It was your Mommy

She had a song in mind, and she played it for me too
With lyrics well designed, she was a talent and a brain
But she'd seen her share of rain in the love game
And she wrote words that spoke of agony and pain
With lyrics so well placed on every single line
I could see it in her face, she had that guy in mind
And she sang right from the heart with words that sounded true
To anyone who'd had a bad case of the blues
There was a time that they were happy - they could face most any threat
And not be hurt by obstacles, ever since they met
But things became illogical, and she's not better yet
Never had i heard a story of such a sad affair
Pieces of her broken heart were scattered everywhere
Were scattered everywhere
And when she played onstage that night, i could tell she wasn't right
She was thinking what he'd do
I said "You write that song or did the song write you?"
Did you write that song or did the song write you
Yeah did you write that song or did the song write you

I love you baby, but no way can we be
More than two ships that pass in the night
We had love once, but now it's gone
Since your love for me went out like a light
I don't understand how you turned this man
Into one I can't identify
Thought a girl like you would be faithful and true
But you're making me wonder why
This ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney
We don't have an affair goin' on
I used to love you, you used to love me
Now you're as distant as the earth from the sun
Don't know what made you feel such pain
This ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney
You turned my sun into rain
Ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney
I'll be alright and you'll be okay
We had our memories, but you took 'em from me
Now you just tell me to go away
Ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney
We don't have an affair goin' on
I used to love you, you used to love me
Now you're as distant as the earth from the sun
Sun
We were tight, the sun shined bright
We knew Cupid's arrow hit the mark just right
But some evil Edison flicked off the light
This ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney
Might say it is, but even they had a fight
Fight
They had a fight
This ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney
You turned away and turned our day into night
You were my lover, you were my friend
You went away and won't come back again
It's time we not pretend...
This ain't no Lennon, ain't no McCartney
We don't have an affair goin' on
I used to love you, you used to love me
Now you're as distant as the earth from the sun

YOUR TURN TO SHINE (THE WINNERS ANTHEM)
Words and Music by Mitchell Stone

All your life, you've dreamed of being the best
It's not enough just to be all you can be
And now that you've put yourself to the ultimate test
You're nearing the dream you've always been able to see
It's your turn to shine
The world's been waiting for you
And all the things that you do
Will bring you closer to your dream
Now your ability shows
The people watching you know
How persistent and strong you can be
When goin' for gold is a goal you achieve
Your lifeâs been lived dedicated to causes that took you
On missions that made common men look up to your ways
And everything now is so positive, it makes you look to
The rest of your years as being the best of your days
It's your turn to shine
The world's been waiting for you
And all the things that you do
Will bring you closer to your dream
Itâs not that your effort wasnât on a grand scale
You put in your time and you took your licks like a champ
And now that the world devotes its attention to hail you
Youâre making your mark and leaving the best as your stamp
Congratulations, youâre done
Eclipsing the stars and the sun
Now that your legacy lives
Youâve got so much more you want to give
Itâs your turn to shine
The worldâs been waiting for you
And everything that you do
Will bring you so much closer to your dream

LUCKY LEILANI
Words and Music by Mitchell Stone
Copyright © Emstone Music
Well I remember playing in that island scene
It was the best place I'd ever been
With your hair blowin' in the wind so free
Along the shores of the Waikiki
Yeah the sun, the moon, and you
And the sea so blue
The palm trees did sway
My cares went away
It was a time I won't forget
If I live to one-oh-two
But you would not let it last
I guess it wasn't for you
Who knows what, who knows why, you let a true love die
The seagulls that flew, so happy in the air
But almost as if they knew that love wasn't everywhere
Well the evening moon was new, and the fresh morning dew
I thought the circle complete, yeah this island life's so sweet
So sweet!
And every time you'd look at me, you'd reinforce that plan
But little did I realize I wasn't your man
Now you've gone to points unknown, leaving me alone
But I gotta tell ya honey, I'm livin' with Leilani
Everybody!
And the sun, the moon, and her keeps gettin' better and better
So you and me are through, but another's replaced you
And the song I sing rings true for Leilani too
I sing
The sun, the moon, and you
With the gentle breezes and sea of blue
Her laughter makes my cares go away
Her pretty moves make the palm trees sway
So aloha and mahalo (goodbye and thank you)
Go makah-ee (toward the sea)
You thought you were akamai wahine (clever woman)
But I'm one clever kah-knee (man)
It was you, it was me, it was Leilani
The sun, the moon, and you
And Leilani

HE CALLS HER PRETTY
Words and Music by Mitchell Stone
Copyright © Emstone Music
Hey Pretty, come and sit by me
And make me happy, make me happy
When we were kids, ages six and nine
I always thought you were a friend of mine
Then when we grew, in our teens I knew
I had a friend for life in little you
And I called you Pretty, that was your name
I called you Pretty and you became
A friend of mine, and a lover too
I knew with you I couldn't lose
When you were 20, I said marry me
It's then I knew we would always be
So come on Pretty, I said be my bride
And always stay right by my side
And I called you Pretty, that was your name
I called you Pretty, you were my flame
Mama used to say to Daddy when they'd sit on the front porch bench
Joe always calls her Pretty
Like you did when we first went
And the people that surrounded us, they always came to know
The couple we became as being
Pretty and her hubby Joe
And I said hey Pretty, can't you see
It's time we raise a family
So we had Joey and he grew too
He goes with Katie and she loves him too
And you sit here, right by my side
And you say Katie will make a pretty bride
And he calls her Pretty like I called you
You say they look like we used to
And now they have a daughter too
And he calls her Pretty - what else would it be
And so the circle goes 'round, you see
I call you Pretty
Come and sit by me
And make me happy, make me happy

YOUR TURN TO SHINE (THE WINNERS ANTHEM)

All your life, you've dreamed of being the best
It's not enough just to be all you can be
And now that you've put yourself to the ultimate test
You're nearing the dream you've always been able to see
It's your turn to shine
The world's been waiting for you
And all the things that you do
Will bring you closer to your dream
Now your ability shows
The people watching you know
How persistent and strong you can be
When goin' for gold is a goal you achieve
Your lifeâs been lived dedicated to causes that took you
On missions that made common men look up to your ways
And everything now is so positive, it makes you look to
The rest of your years as being the best of your days
It's your turn to shine
The world's been waiting for you
And all the things that you do
Will bring you closer to your dream
Itâs not that your effort wasnât on a grand scale
You put in your time and you took your licks like a champ
And now that the world devotes its attention to hail you
Youâre making your mark and leaving the best as your stamp
Congratulations, youâre done
Eclipsing the stars and the sun
Now that your legacy lives
Youâve got so much more you want to give
Itâs your turn to shine
The worldâs been waiting for you
And everything that you do
Will bring you so much closer to your dream

LUCKY LEILANI

Well I remember playing in that island scene
It was the best place I'd ever been
With your hair blowin' in the wind so free
Along the shores of the Waikiki
Yeah the sun, the moon, and you
And the sea so blue
The palm trees did sway
My cares went away
It was a time I won't forget
If I live to one-oh-two
But you would not let it last
I guess it wasn't for you
Who knows what, who knows why, you let a true love die
The seagulls that flew, so happy in the air
But almost as if they knew that love wasn't everywhere
Well the evening moon was new, and the fresh morning dew
I thought the circle complete, yeah this island life's so sweet
So sweet!
And every time you'd look at me, you'd reinforce that plan
But little did I realize I wasn't your man
Now you've gone to points unknown, leaving me alone
But I gotta tell ya honey, I'm livin' with Leilani
Everybody!
And the sun, the moon, and her keeps gettin' better and better
So you and me are through, but another's replaced you
And the song I sing rings true for Leilani too
I sing
The sun, the moon, and you
With the gentle breezes and sea of blue
Her laughter makes my cares go away
Her pretty moves make the palm trees sway
So aloha and mahalo (goodbye and thank you)
Go makah-ee (toward the sea)
You thought you were akamai wahine (clever woman)
But I'm one clever kah-knee (man)
It was you, it was me, it was Leilani
The sun, the moon, and you
And Leilani

HE CALLS HER PRETTY

Hey Pretty, come and sit by me
And make me happy, make me happy
When we were kids, ages six and nine
I always thought you were a friend of mine
Then when we grew, in our teens I knew
I had a friend for life in little you
And I called you Pretty, that was your name
I called you Pretty and you became
A friend of mine, and a lover too
I knew with you I couldn't lose
When you were 20, I said marry me
It's then I knew we would always be
So come on Pretty, I said be my bride
And always stay right by my side
And I called you Pretty, that was your name
I called you Pretty, you were my flame
Mama used to say to Daddy when they'd sit on the front porch bench
Joe always calls her Pretty
Like you did when we first went
And the people that surrounded us, they always came to know
The couple we became as being
Pretty and her hubby Joe
And I said hey Pretty, can't you see
It's time we raise a family
So we had Joey and he grew too
He goes with Katie and she loves him too
And you sit here, right by my side
And you say Katie will make a pretty bride
And he calls her Pretty like I called you
You say they look like we used to
And now they have a daughter too
And he calls her Pretty - what else would it be
And so the circle goes 'round, you see
I call you Pretty
Come and sit by me
And make me happy, make me happy
