Bio:
Sarah Biggs was born in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, where she began playing guitar and writing songs in her early teens. The music that inspired her then â Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco and the Grateful Dead, among others â laid the foundation for the rich folk-and-blues nuances that characterize her music today.
After completing a Fine Arts degree at Champlain College in Lennoxville, Quebec, Sarah moved to Vancouver in 1995. Here she spent the next eight years, developing her music and working as an inlay artist, aromatherapy consultant, and holistic massage therapist. It wasnât long before she was part of the local music scene, playing at various venues in the city and on Vancouver Island. âI grew a lot as a musician in Vancouver,â says Sarah. âI particularly enjoyed taking part in Music Waste, a festival for independent artists.â
In 2002, shortly after the birth of her son, Sarah moved to Oshawa, Ontario. âThat was a difficult place for me to be, in many ways,â she recalls. âBut then a lot of creative energy can come from an unhappy place.â After a long hiatus, Sarah once again found her voice and her inspiration among local artists. âThe fellow musicians I met there are some of the most talented Iâve ever known. Joanne Shaw, Jim Brant, Glen Copithorn, John Kennedy, Sue Latimer, Brad McCarthur, Po Pelly, John Eltis and othersâ¦.They were pivotal in me re-discovering my voice and passion to play again.â She met Alex Paris, owner of Artist Development Studio, and recorded her debut CD, Ruled by Emotion (2005). As the title implies, the compilation of original songs is based on her life experiences, invested with the stirring personal energy of voice and acoustic guitar.
Sarah returned to the Eastern Townships a full decade after she left, and now lives in West Brome with her husband and their two children. Her second compilation of original songs, Rising Sign, was recorded with the addition of studio musicians and released in 2007.
Today Sarah balances family life and music, performing at various local venues and working on a third CD. âMy intention is to reflect my Eastern Townships roots, to capture that Appalachian foothills feel. I recently bought a banjolin â basically a mandolin with a banjo-style body â and Iâm hoping to integrate those sounds into the new CD.â A fifth-generation Townshipper, Sarah has always felt a deep connection to the area. âIn my heart I never really left the Townships,â she says. âThis is my heartâs home.â

A Rambling Thought - I am well aware of how blessed I am, in more ways than I can count. I am so grateful to everyone who helped to keep me motivated and inspired to complete this third album. There were many moments when I was not sure it would ever happen. Of course, a heartfelt thank you to all the musicians who were so generous with their gifts; it is a privilege for me to share this space with you all. Thank you Robert Atyeo for helping me find the confidence and the Key to produce this album myself. Thank you Alex Paris, I really feel itâs because of you that I am this far along the road in the first place. Thank you John for your infinite patience in the studio. You are truly Five Star my friend. And last but certainly not least, thank you to Gabriel, Emma and Maurice, my sweet, patient and loving little family that continues to support me in doing what I love.
A final note; The song âThe Longest Nightâ is dedicated to the memory of Gerry Wood, whoâs energy remains woven into the fabric of what it really means to be a Townshipper.
