Details:
This CD is a collection of 15 songs spanning over 25 years that illustrate clearly how any player can use a partial guitar capo to play new music. Harvey Reid is most known for his instrumental guitar work with partial capos, but he has used them just as extensively in his songwriting and arranging. Capo Voodoo: Songs collects tracks from 11 of Reid's previous albums, and also contains 2 unreleased cuts and 2 new re-recordings of some songs he has previously released. All told, these 15 largely solo songs use 9 different configurations of the partial capo, including 11 in standard guitar tuning and 4 tracks that combine a partial capo with an altered tuning. The songs are fingerpicked, flatpicked and strummed, and cover a range of musical styles, from folk, blues, gospel, pop and children's music to old-time and bluegrass. 12 tracks feature a 6-string acoustic guitar, two use a 12-string guitar, and one a 6-string banjo in standard guitar tuning. One song is a duet for two partial capoed guitars, and the rest are just Reid solo with his guitar, clearly illustrating the powers of the partial capo.
Harvey Reid is responsible for most of what is known about the partial guitar capo, and he has used it extensively in his music since the late 1970's. He invented most of the common capo configurations, wrote and arranged the first music, made the first recordings, published the first books, and has paved the way for thousands of other players to discover this simple yet amazingly powerful guitar tool. Guitarists have used hundreds of tunings throughout the 500 year history of the guitar, but the mysterious parallel world of partial capos is mostly unexplored. New chords, scales, open strings and resonances are available, and a whole landscape of new music becomes available to any player just by attaching one of the 17 kinds of partial capos that are now on the market. Total beginners can play great-sounding chords right away, songwriters and arrangers can find new voicings and sounds, and skilled players can do impossible thingsâ all with the skills they already have. A great deal more information can be found in Reid's books about partial capos and on http:///www.partialcapo.com
