Well⦠where should I begin? What are the Imaginary Cookies. Literally; nothing! Metaphorically, sure letâs use metaphors here. I have been making weird music for years, if you need proof check out my best of, entitled: Scott Paris â Ifâ¦Dogâ¦Rabbit! A greatest hits that only spans FIVE years! So, yeah, I make a LOT of weird music, all the time. When I was young I was really into guys like Mathew Sweet, Dave Grohl (early Foo Fighters) anyone who made records and played all their own instruments. So, over the years Iâve been part of many wonderful projects with fabulous musicians. I LOVE working with other people⦠sometimes. Part of me always wants to do it all myself. The Cookies record is the first time I set rules down before making a record by myself. The rules were simple: make a record thatâs as poppy as I can stand, balance it with weird sounds to sooth my experimental soul, BUT, make sure it can be played live! Itâs very easy these days with digital multitrack systems to layer things to death, which Iâve done in the past. The finesse, I think, is to restrain yourself a little to keep it playable. So now, what to call this group of made up pieces of my own psyche? Imaginary Cookies. Why cookies? I donât know, why not! My favorite bands have food names, Damnit, I want one too! Blind Melon, Smashing Pumpkins, Lemonheads, etc. Also, I guess I wanted an inviting name, friendly and very non-metal. Iâve done heavier things in the past and I am quite done with that. Here we are, present day. I do have a couple amazing characters that help me bring the Cookies to the stage: Chris Egert and Joe Middleton. As a trio with backing tracks we can conjure the âAmalgamâ world on stage every night. You can actually picture the Ferris wheels and volcanoes erupting and everything. So, enjoy what has now become a wonderful institution for beautiful souls yearning for a new magical place to dwell for a little while. Lastly, the Amalgam In The Middle title refers not only to the genre-bending hodgepodge of sounds and textures in the music, but also to the bandâs sound and ideas in a very harsh market where obviously this is not a big commercial sound, and we must put out this music ourselves. Honestly though, we wouldnât have it any other way. Not one ounce of integrity was lost from my original vision in the finished product, which is not the case on big label releases. ENJOY!!!
- Love Always,
Scott Paris
