Melbourne-based earthy epic folk-rock band Beth King
& The Hemingway Collective features six
friends of fine musical pedigree who produce beguiling finely crafted orchestral folk songs. Listening
to them makes you want to sit under a tree
whilst wearing loose fitting clothes and whittle away
the sundrenched hours sipping cider.
The band is comprised of Beth King (vocals, guitar, keys),
Tin Hemingway (vocals, guitar, keys, saxophone),
Catherine Dow (flute, clarinet & sax), Frank Pearce
(vocals, bass, guitar), Matt Moras (electric guitar, keys, piano accordion), and Jessie-Lee Mills
(drums, percussion) but all members swap instruments regularly
such is their prowess and versatility.
They deliver whimsical, luscious folk with a cohesion
of which other bands would only dream. Their influences
are Joni Mitchell, Ben Harper & Pink Floyd,
but they have carved a sound all of their own.
Outside, Looking In shifts from emotive, broody
tunes to uplifting ballads and they entwine rich sonic
textures, enveloped with melodic harmonies.
