THE CHAIN LETTER

-BIOGRAPHY:-

They are Leslie (Kamal) Schmidt, Henry (DVS), Alex (Technician), & Pamela (Ms.Kandi) Sejas. Not a group, but 4 solo artists who came 2gether to drop a strong hip-hop debut. Technician, DVS, & Ms.Kandi were born in Cochabamba, Bolivia and raised in Alexandria, VA, birthplace of Kamal. DVS & Kamal, boyz since age 10, shared a common interest in art, as well as Technician did, while Ms.Kandi took on music at an early age learning several musical instruments, and winning awards in elementary and high school chorus.
Alexandria, VA a.k.a. "Tha Highway", largely minority populated, became where they developed a love for the hip-hop culture. In the summer of '97 after moving to Fairfax, VA, they began recording songs on anything they could plug a mic into. By 1999 DVS, Technician, & Ms.Kandi, compiled over 60 underground joints, while Kamal & his crew still kept busy on Tha Highway droppin' several underground & freestyle tapes. It was then that they made the jump from recording over B-side instrumentals to creating their original music to deliver a more authentic & signature sound. Enough original material was gradually created that by 2000, they were confident a powerful album could be put 2gether. After a few bad experiences with shady producers & studios who didn't take them seriously, Kamal aka 2 Men-E introduced DVS to Qualified Live Studios in September 2001. Kamal, DVS, Technician, & Ms.Kandi patiently waited for a call back for studio time, and on October 23, 2002 at 9:22pm work began on The Chain Letter.

-ALBUM INFO:-

Hip-Hop with a twist of dark-harmony, socially conscious lyrics, and relentless emotional content. Songs like No More & How Many Times paint an inspirational melodic picture of living in and overcoming a relationship gone wrong, while giving the album much needed R&B flava. Upbeat hardcore tracks like First Class & Heartbeat are introduced early in the album to avoid any comparison with the radio-friendly R&B/Hip-Pop flooding mainstream. Madman, This Is Where The Fun Stops, U Can't, & Random Animal Beef deliver hardcore hip-hop with strong lyrics & relavent subject matter. The album is lightened up by more psychedelic/punch line joints like Drain My Fluid & Smack You, and concluded on a positive note by the inspirational Food 4 Thought. This album was only 2/3 done when recording began, it didn't even have a title or cover artwork until most of the recording was done. The Chain Letter is already selling locally and creating a buzz in the VA/Metro area, and with several songs already in the works for upcoming albums, this is just a taste of things to come from Dark Night Records. Also look out for more work by Kamal (appearing as 2 Men-E) on projects by Qualified Live Entertainment.
