What is there left to say about the musical genius that is Caspar
McCloud? Not only is the man a true gentleman, but he is a gifted painter
(as in, the Leonardo Di Vinci kind of painter!) and a sensational
musician â Caspar is as versatile as a Swiss army knife, and like a Swiss
army knife, each ability is as sharp and practical as youâd expect.
Caspar landed the part of John Lennon in Beatlemania on Broadway towards
the start of his musical career, before spending a year as a recording
artist on Atlantic Records in the USA, which, as many of you will know,
is the same label as Jewel, POD and the Corrs, with the labelâs president
quoted as saying âCaspar is the next Jimi Hendrixâ. Casparâs latest
musical project, Three, is a progressive, classic, British-style rock
band with a slight Celtic influence. The current album is a collection of
the best tracks from the first two albums, plus a new song called âNobody
Wants To Dieâ, and will appeal to fans of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The
Beatles and U2. The collection is as diverse as the man himself, ranging
from acoustic songs such as the Irish-sounding âSpirit Of Loveâ and the
soft, intimate gospel pop/rock of âIn Our Lifetimeâ to the heavier tracks
such as the electrifying âFaithfulnessâ, the formidable 70âs-style-rock
of âBacksliderâ, âHoly Wordsâ and the archetypal âNobody Wants To Dieâ.
At this point, I would also like to draw to your attention to the fact
that Caspar also has a book coming out before too long, which Iâd suggest
keeping an eye out for. Caspar McCloud is truly a man born to inherit the
title âartistâ, and this is a release I would recommend for any true
music fan's collection.

THE MINISTRY OF THREE

"Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my
fingers to fight." Psalm 144:1
"Caspar McCloud is the next Jimi Hendrix." -- Ahmet
Ertegun, President, Atlantic Records
"Caspar McCloud is a post pre-Raphaelite artist, a very accomplished
guitarist, singer/songwriter, equestrian, and actor;
he even once had a starring role in a hit Broadway musical.
Why, he is a modern day renaissance man!"--- The 700 Club

Of course, the moment you got saved, all of your old Led Zeppelin records
went right in the trash. But, what if your tastes didnât exactly change
at conversion? What if Christian Contemporary kinda sounds too soft and
gooey to your hard, honed ears? Thankfully, God foresaw the heaviness of
you heart. Thus, the group, Three was created for those who like to
praise hard, heavy and quite a few decibels way too loud!
Yes, all of this is quite scriptural. Remember, Psalm 33 exhorts us to
sing unto Him a new song and to play skillfully with a loud noise. Three
does exactly that â 3 virtuous virtuosos with the screaming guitar riffs,
thundering bass lines and extended drum solos we still confess to love
after all these years. Face it, if any of the Osbourne kids are ever to
get saved, itâs probably going to be at a Three concert. In fact, at
their first show, forty-five teens heard the gospel and gave themselves
to Christ!
The group was formed in 1999 by Caspar McCloud, who has a long,
long-haired, rock pedigree. After starring in the hit Broadway musical
"Beatlemania", he was signed as a solo artist to Atlantic Records. Touted
as the next Hendrix, Caspar went the undecidedly un-Jimi route of not
dying, but getting born again and healed of an incurable heart disorder
(His awesome testimony has been featured on TBN -- Read all about it on
Threeâs website). Phil Keaggy, another Christian guitar hero, was the
mentor who led him to the Lord. Both Keaggy and the Newsboys have made
guest appearances on Threeâs albums.
Their albums ("In Our Lifetime", "Soul Saved" and "Nothing Is
Impossible") all have a hard edge, but like any good Zep album, thereâs
quite a few acoustic, power ballads thrown into the mix. Unplugged
nuggets like "The Living Word" and "You Can Talk To The Wind" showcase
Casparâs classical and Celtic upbringing. These are the worship tunes
even your parents will like. Their feedback-tinged "Be Thou my Vision"
might stretch a few purists, but, isnât getting a little stretched whatâs
it all about?!!!
Like any good power trio, the rhythm section of Brett Manous on Bass and
Carlos Merced on drums lay a steady foundation. And, speaking about
foundations, Threeâs songs are not only about salvation, they sing about
sanctification â the importance of getting right with God and how to stay
there.
They are three able ministers. Their hands go to war on your behalf,
their fingers fight furiously on the fretboards against the forces of
evil and thereâs still a beat you can groove too. Dude, they are so like
an answer to prayer!

I was standing by my booth at "4 Night in October" when I heard a raging guitar solo coming from that distinctive Marshall stack sound from the stage below so I walked over to the edge to see what was going on down there. I must admit this is a strange thing for me to do, because being involved in a ministry that takes me nationwide to Christian music arts events I get to see about 600 bands a years and honestly it has become somewhat "old hat" but this was different. Down on stage were three guys, no running around, no props, no six foot long guitar effects pedal, just Bass, drums and a guitar. And what a guitar! there's Caspar standing there in his paisley shirt blowing in the breeze and for one brief moment I was transported back to the very early days of "hard rock" Christian music, you know "Resurrection Band" days.
To often today bands get labeled as "straight forward, simple rock and rock" this title tends to be used by the artist themselves as a way of ducking a label all together, but Caspar and friends deserve the title more than any band I've seen in many years. In years to come people will mention these names together. Ken Tamplin, Glenn Kaiser, Phil Keagy, Bob Hartman and Caspar Mc Cloud. A honor that most modern day guitar players will never even come close to getting. Music wasn't all that was coming out down there though, simple songs with a simple message and that being Jesus loves you, you must choose because time is running out. now this is a rare thing in the day of bands sharing more esoteric lyric lines (mostly because they don't want to use the "J" name) "THREE" has two more things going for it . . . 1) a Solid bass man, Mark Brague who lays a clean line down, loud without over-powering the guitar and drums. 2) A great guy on the skins back there in drummer Carlos Merced who has a flare for added elements along the way to keep it interesting. I highly recommend keeping your eye out for the ministry of "THREE" if they are coming to your area, go,Go, GO! I know you won't be disappointed, your ears may ring a little, but you won't be disappointed"

Jesus bless,
Jeff Hauser
