This Is Now
Band Bio and New Release Blurb
This Is Now is a compilation of musicians and songs that create an 80âs retro rock feel with a new twist. By blending New Wave & Progressive Rock genres This Is Now has produced an album with entwining counter melodies that rhythmically cruise, peak, and crest. The band has been compared to Alternative Rock bands like The Cure, and Tears for Fears; Classic Rock artists like David Bowie, The Beatles, and Fleetwood Mac; and even Progressive Rock bands like Genesis, Rush, and Yes.
All lyrics were written by singer/songwriter & frontman Angelo âthe glowâ DiPilla. The glow shines by offering intellectual commentary on the human condition with a mass appeal groove. This Is Now, the self-titled release by this musically seasoned band, features songs that explore the human emotions of jealousy, in Rig The Bait; and feeling out of place, in Ordinary Man; or eminent death, in In Dread Youâre Read.
The bandâs music is strongly influenced by lead guitarist, Brian Hannigan, whose screaming rock & roll licks explode in Our Love, and in the moody swells of Itâs A Good Thing.
This Is Now live shows feature concert-style solo performances from each of its members, including piano virtuoso, Phil LaBar, whose playing is prominent in Loneliness, a creeping ballad that builds to an ominous finish; and Music Out Of Tune, a song that relates the futility of unrequited love.
The New Jersey band is anchored by a heavy rhythm section grounded by drummer, Roy Coleâs, tasty fills and solid backbone beats evident in tracks like Gratefully Living, or Memories Of A Melting Man, and by the booming bottom of bassist, Lou Flacche, whose five-string, and fretless bass work is prominent in the heart-felt, Mathew John Mathew, and the jamming, Changing Sides.
This Is Now, the album, is an eclectic mix of stories that captures the feelings of itâs new listeners, and brings back a steady following of loyal fans to hear crowd favorites like Puppy Dog and Subliminal Seduction.
Many years of turmoil preceded the production of this album, but that was then and This Is Now.
