Hello my name is Thelma Morris-Fogarty, welcome to my CDbaby web page. Licorice And The Brown Sweater is the heart warming tale of a young lamb who doesnât want to be sheared. Ultimately he is sheared and his wool is made into a sweater for his friend. Children learn about washing, carding, spinning and weaving wool. The experience is enhanced by the sounds of real sheep, carding brushes preparing fibers, the whorl of the spinning wheel, and the beautiful wooden sound of an old floor loom weaving cloth. This story appeals to children as well as adults and is an accurate description of how wool fibers are prepared and used.
For fifteen years we raised sheep here in Nova Scotia and I developed a weaving studio using the wool from our flock to work with. I still work as a spinner and weaver presenting my work at fine craft shows. Iâm a juried member of Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council as well as a member of Pictou County Writerâs Group. I have three published childrenâs picture books, two published short stories for adults and have had a number of weaving articles published in craft magazines. It is my great delight to read my farm stories to children and have been invited to many schools, libraries and events to read and show how the spinning wheel works. With my husbands urging I have recorded this CD of my first book. My books titled Licorice and the Brown Sweater, Freckle and the Chicks, and I Hate My Name are all available at www.glenmargaret.com
