Deeply rooted in 70's soft rock and pop, Tumbledown's music can best be described as rhythm-driven rock with country, folk, blues and jazz influences - with emphasis on the acoustic guitars.
15 MP3 Songs
ROCK: 70's Rock, EASY LISTENING: Soft Rock
Details:
Tumbledown is a band founded by Alan Collins of Farmington, Maine and Scott Swan, a native Mainer currently living in Jacksonville, Florida. Alan plays acoustic and electric rhythm guitars, as well as miscellaneous percussion instruments. Scott plays acoustic and electric rhythm guitars and bass. Both sing lead and backing vocals. Scott's son Jonathon Swan played acoustic guitar on most of the tracks and is considered an "unofficial" member of the band. Additional musicians for this project include Jacob Smith on drums; Stephen and Nate Collins on keyboards; and Kaitlyn Hall, Kay Sue Collins, Tamara Collins and Megan Collins on backing vocals.
Sail Away, Tumbledown's first CD, is a completely home-grown project, from the recording to the mixing and mastering. It was digitally recorded and mixed on a PC-based system using Cakewalk's Sonar. Mastering was done using Sony's Sound Forge. The CD is a collection of songs that Alan and Scott have written over the last 25 years, both individually and collectively; as well as a song written by Jonathon Swan (âComfort Meâ). Also included as a bonus track is a song written and sung by Kaitlyn Hall, called âThere For Meâ.
Tumbledown gets its name from one of the many mountains surrounding Webb Lake in Weld, Maine - a place that both Scott and Alan have deep emotional ties to. In fact, most of the songs for the CD were recorded in a cottage on Webb Lake.
Acoustic rhythm guitar-driven rock with folk, country, blues and jazz influences; many of their songs have a 70's soft-rock feel to them. This is because it is the bands and artists of that era that most greatly influence their writing and playing style. America is definitely the most influential, with bands and artists like Jim Croce, The Eagles, Poco, Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Brown, CSN(&Y), Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot & James Taylor not too far behind.
Two songs from this CD ("The Right Thing To Doâ and âMake It Up To Youâ) have been selected to be included in a soon-to-be-released Windows role-playing game (RPG) called âShady OâGradyâs Rising Starâ by Shrapnel Games and Gilligames.
