Details:
The members of Ten After Eight began playing together while attending high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At first, their jam sessions were exactly that. But now, four years later and after solidifying a diverse repertoire of songs, Ten After Eight has emerged from the basement and is ready to rock the stage, wherever that may be. Their set may be quick (usually around an hour) but it gets to the point, covers a wide dynamic and emotional range and is really something to see. The band moves fluidly yet erratically around the stage, never choreographing the visual aspect of the performance. Instead, they do what they feel through the music. Upon hearing the bandâs first full-length album âFor Lack Of Better Wordsâ you will get into it, too. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BIOGRAPHY The members of Ten After Eight have loved playing together since they met in the fall of 2001. And while differences had them separated for a short time, the band returned to its original form in the fall of 2004. When the guys met, they were just 15, 16 and 17 years old. Their similar, but not identical music tastes helped to quickly fuel the process of getting songs together. Most of these early songs have been scrapped, only to be replaced with ones that far surpass their early compositions in every aspect. These songs have helped put them on the way to success, which is something the guys never expected in those early jam sessions. While the list of influences could go on for pages, the band feels that their main, undisputed influences are Incubus, A Perfect Circle and Finch. All three members are self-taught in their crafts and have cultivated their abilities through rigorous practice. Robâs guitar work is very reminiscent of Mike Einziger (Incubus), considering all of the analog effects pedals he uses, but takes on its own unique and complicated form. Travisâs drumming style recalls the spirit of late 1990âs alternative, when a little bit of hip-hop began to be implemented. His kit is pretty standard but the power and emotion he puts into his playing would make one think he has a kit twice that size. Greg is the voice of the band and holds up the bottom end with his bass talents. People are amazed that he can play his complicated bass lines while singing. Despite the presence of only three members, Ten After Eight can write in a way so that no part is absorbed into the mix, and more importantly can entertain an audience. Travis- A totally solid drummer with no fear of breaking the mold. Even on songs that the band has countless times, Travis has no problem adding a different cymbal crash or an extra kick. His ability to change dynamics and styles is simply incredible. Most of the comedy in the band is generated from Travis, as he has an unobstructed, yet practical sense of humor. Rob- Robâs love for his effects pedals is one of the main points in defining Ten After Eightâs sound. He has spent hours on more than one occasion (and sometimes with just one pedal) trying to get a precise sound from it. The twin attack from his dual Marshall cabs powers his performance sound. From a totally clean tone to one distorted and saturated with so many effects that it hardly resembles a guitar sound, Robâs arsenal allows him to run the sonic gauntlet. Greg- The youngest member of the band, Greg is the conduit through which the bandâs words are broadcast. On âFor Lack Of Better Words,â Greg pulled the duties of singing the lead and backup vocals, writing all of the lyrics and laying down some great bass lines. His lyrics come after sometimes several weeks of planning out and brainstorming in order to move away from many of the clichés in rock today. Personal and emotive, Gregâs lyrics have already shown, based on fan reactions, that they can be interpreted in more ways than one. In late December of 2004, Ten After Eight entered the studio with the intent to put out a solid album. They do that goal justice, as âFor Lack Of Better Wordsâ showcases their talents and passions. The realization of what they have worked for over the past few years occurred with the release of âFor Lack Of Better Wordsâ in July of 2005. With the focus on their musical and lyrical substance, rather than a stupid gimmick, Ten After Eight have shown their drive and desire not only on their album but on stage as well. This young band has many years ahead of it, and the future is looking very bright.
