BIOGRAPHY

Many popular rock songs of the last decade told tales of doom, gloom, and victimization. A far cry from earlier days, when the music told us to "rock and roll all night and party every day". There is evidence to suggest that the pendulum is swinging back to the more cheerful days of rock and roll, and this would suit the members of Temple of Fire (TOF), the Phoenix-based band, just fine.

"Enough of this woe is me stuff," proclaims the band's bassist and lead vocalist, Ryan Mack.

TOF is currently rehearsing both new and previously released material in preparation for upcoming live performances. The band is planning a club tour of select Southwest United States cities.

The band started off in 2002 as Ryan Mack's recording project. Mack co-wrote nine songs that year with close friend Brian McNally. With the help of musicians David Rumley and Kelly Knight, Mack recorded TOF's first record, The Deformed, at Lucky 13 studios in Tempe, Arizona.

How was the band to perform live? After weeks of placing and calling on want ad's in Phoenix newspapers, Josh Burgoyne called Mack out of the blue. The two met months earlier when both were auditioning for another band. Mack knew that Burgoyne was a phenomenal, versatile guitar player, and Burgoyne instantly got the job.

"He parachuted in out of nowhere," recalled Mack.

Rumley agreed to join the band on drums, and the trio played several powerful live shows in the Phoenix area after a few months of rehearsal.

Rumley departed the band in late 2003, but the vacancy was soon filled. After an exhaustive search, Brian Cocivera became the band's drummer in 2004.

"Another diamond in the rough," says Mack of Cocivera.

Although the members of TOF are dedicated professionals, they don't take everything seriously. In a recent discussion about songwriting, Mack commented that, "if a word fits the topic-and rhymes-I'll probably use it."

Burgoyne isn't overly philosophical, either. When asked why he joined the band, he replied, "I just love playing guitar".

Of interest is Cocivera's other business venture, Chop Shop Custom Drums. Based in Chandler, Arizona, Chop Shop produces high quality, hand crafted custom drums. Cocivera personally works on every kit produced by the firm.

TOF's sound spans the genres, including pop, rock, and metal. Chock full of clever vocal hooks, raging guitar licks, and thunderous drum parts, TOF's sound has something for every music fan.
