ROCK: Funk Rock, WORLD: Reggae
Details:
Hey thanks for checking out The Tea Monkeys debut album Hanging Baskets of Babylon. Allow me to explain a bit about this amazing CD...
This album is a journey starting with some hard hitting pop-rock, whilst keeping a good undertone of offbeat reggae funkdom with A Place of Safety(and even ska elements in Pot of Gold) about the feel. The album then progresses into a world of funk rock with the tracks My Time, Devilsline and the aptly named Phunq.
We then take a left turn into the world of reggae and dub with the light at the end of the tunnel and revolutionise which still keep a rock influence in to boot.
The album then moves into a more standarised reggae arena with Proper Tropical and Sunday Afternoon Revisited before it takes another turn into Settlement In Lieu - a very special track and one that should definately be seen live to be believed
For a final twist a funk rock theme is returned to for P as P and Predictable before rounding things off in a beautifully chilled way with Peter Green Blues.
I hope this summarises things well and please buy the CD!!
"Congratulations on a great sound....A Great Band" Dean Jackson, BBC Radio.
And here's a little about the songs -
The Intro was recorded whilst J Wo was out for a cigarette break hence he does not feature on this track
A Place of Safety was written by Lewis in New Zealand - the track was originally called Aoteroa after this amazing place - if you haven't been GO NOW!!!
Light Up is a very happy tune about lighting up (your life with love that is)
Pot of Gold is about a dreamscape that's not quite attainable although it makes us feel whole to think we've got there
Another Half Life is the outro to a song called Another Life which didn't make the album in all it's glory
My Time is about how much better of one is when one leaves someone else behind
Devilsline is about the dangers of selling out corporate style
Phunq is a pastische to a famous artist who'd probably sue my ass if I put his name down here so answers on an e-mail and I'll tell you if you're right
Karma before the storm is going to be a fantastic reggae tune on our next album...but we love it so much we put a taster on this one too!!
The Light At The End Of The Tunnel is about the journalist who was famously be-headed in Iraq
Revolutionise is a call to arms against any kind of bigotry or discrimination, positive or otherwise
Girl I Want is the most chilled song on the album and is about a girl we want
Tea Tone is going to feature on the next album but we put a taster on here
Proper Tropical is about spending a day in the bay of islands at the northern tip of the north island of new zealand
Sunday Afternoon Revisited is about sitting in your room with only a stuffed lifesize bengali white tiger as company
Settlement In Lieu should be sang whenever a company has to "let you go"
P as P will feature on the next album but again here is a taster
Predictable is about doing that little bit extra for the one you love
Peter Green Blues is an improvised jam that reminded us of the great Peter Green, hence the title
Well, there's a summary - Hope you enjoy the album and that's for reading and checking us out!!!
