Details:
T John Smith (Dr. Timothy John Smith) was born in Indiana and is now a university professor in Stockton, California. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 8; taking lessons from a guitarist who retired from the "Big Band Jazz" circuit and settled down in his hometown. Tim remembers listening to Chet Atkins and Andre Segovia in the early sixties and remarks, "To my ears, they were wizards and I wanted to emulate their sound as much as possible." He attended Purdue University, where he earned a degree in Pharmacy, prior to earning a doctoral degree in Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Despite the demands of pharmacy and graduate education, the guitar was never far away. "There were many times I would play for a wedding or a party during my university days; these simple gigs were among the most memorable of my life." After becoming a university professor in the pharmaceutical sciences, he started to sing and play to his students in a large lecture hall at the end of each semester, often with standing ovations. "My students have encouraged me to be creative with my music and a sample of the range of my music is presented in Solo 1.0."
