The year was late 1980. The city was St.Louis, Missouri; the area was the westside of the city. A young black women just brought home a son. Little did she realize she had just given birth to the city's musical pride; Tantrum Montana.
In the early 1990s , Tantrum's mom settled into the Hathaway Trails neighborhood in St.Louis North County area. In the 1994/1995 Tantrum would hook up with some neighborhood guys known as Fadel Level; Da Joka and Big Dawg. " They were first people I met who was really trying to make music."
In 1996, Tantrum Montana hooked up with the group Lyrikal Warfare. While running tight together Lyrikal Warfare made a real strong buzz. Tantrum's first professional recording opportunity came from Memphis legend Kingpin Skinny Pimp's 2000 album "Back 2da PlayazBall"; track #14 "Warfare". After dropping a few group albums and nothing really coming out of it the group started drifting apart. " It was nothing too personal. Nothing a good conversation couldn't workout. We all learned alot from each other and we know what kinda of music we made together. We know we have alot fans; be patient when the time is right."
In the spring of 2002, Tantrum Montana met with his present manager; Adam Murphy. " He helped us, Lyrikal Warfare, put out our 4th album "Articles of War". He came at us real strong on the business tip." In 2003/2004, Tantrum has been traveling to other Midwest cities; Chicago, Gary, and Indianapolis. " I go to these other cities and all the top guys are giving me respect. Chicago; I'm running with EC Illa (Whitefolks), Da Wreck, and the whole DramaWard. Gary; I'm out there recording with Fingeroll and No Tamin Ent., ThuggedOut, and Father Tyme."
All it will take is one listen and you'll hear why they say he is the "Pride of St.Louis". He has everything from a strong voice, lyrics and music. "This "Pride of St.Louis" title; I did not think of it, my manager did not think of it. The fans of St.Louis Hip Hop gave me the title. I'm a Show Me boy, I can show u better then I could tell ya!"
