With over two decades of perfecting the âstruggling artist syndrome,â Tami Fick thinks she has it mastered. âI feel like, any day now something will hit big and I will be an overnight sensationâ¦.right?â (She smiles..) Hmmmmmmmm.
The journey she has been on with her music spans back to her earliest years. âIt all began when I was in fifth grade. There I was with one of those thick- neck classical guitars barely able to reach my hand around it to form a âGâ chordâ¦it was from then on that I knew that I would need to write all of my songs in chords that only used the bottom three stringsâ¦there was hope.â (She smiles again..)
Her songwriting goes back to those young, aspiring years where she knew she already had profound things to say. (Smile) âYes, one of my very first tunes was called, âPeople, What Are They?â Pretty deep for a kid, huh? Most of my songs back then and as I grew older were fairly contemplative. You know, the âwhatâs life all aboutâ theme with the âlonging for loveâ lyrics. When I would finish writing a song I would usually go into my momâs bathroom where she would be busy putting on her make-up. I would sit down on the toilet seat and start to play and sing. If I saw her mascara running after I was done, I knew the song had potential.â
Her first public performance was in high school. It was then she thought it would be her last. âI was so nervous that my voice was shaking in a vibrato that made me wonder if the audience thought I was trying to do an impression of Tiny Tim.â Thankfully, the nerves wore off and Tami was heard by a producer some years later and from that connection she recorded her first independent project. Her second CD came a couple of years later and by then her fan base in southern California was growing. âI did a lot of gigging in the LA area and started to get airplay on one of the major stations out there. I ended up winning some contests for my songwriting and did some recording as a featured vocalist on three national releases with WORD Records and INTEGRITY Music.. More years ahead were filled with touring as a lead vocalist in the southeastern states after she had moved to Nashville, TN. âI had a good time in TN and definitely learned a lot. I met so many great people and did quite a bit of performing in coffeehouses and for special events. Even got to do some recording with people I thought I would never rub elbows with. It was a good time in my life.â
Her music has gone overseas to countries such as Germany, Austria, France, Romania, Australia and the Czech Republic. Her fan base also spreads out to Canada and Mexico,
Malaysia, Norway and the Netherlands..Sweden, Switzerland and South Africa. Tamiâs most recent project, âCall Me A Dreamerâ is already catching the ears and hearts of more and more fans. It is a CD she waited a long time to record. âI feel itâs my best expression to date. Iâm excited about how it turned out. I really had a great producer.â
