THE TRIBE

The Tribe began in 1994 with five members, all coming from various bands in Gallatin,Tennessee (about 25 miles east of Nashville). Originally, we began to get together just to remember the good times and play music at a friend's house; little did we know the magic that was about to happen. After our first jam session we felt pretty good about the band. We had known each other over the years and the capabilities of each player, since we each had played in competing bands across town. We just couldn't give it up; there was a love for the music that just wouldn't die. We did not know what was to take place, but felt that SOMETHING would, if we would just have the faith.

So we began. At first we thought that we would play a few cover songs and play a few gigs and then it happened: Like magic, we were recording every pratice and as we listened back, we said, "hey thats a pretty cool tune we should try to make something of it". Pretty soon, we had our first original song and then it just clicked. Before we knew it we had song after song. It was such a great feeling to come to practice and not know what was going to happen and by the end of the night when we would listen back to a practice tape a new song evolved.

Each of the members had been in various bands for years, most of us could sit and tell you alot of hype. I know for myself I played for a living for seven years and had opportunity to go on the road and play for some big names, but I was loyal to the bands I was with, so I stayed with them. When it was said and done, I was back to having a day gig (probably 99 of the musicians out there could say that), but thats life. When this band began, I felt something very special and it was just in the air and the music just flowed.

On a whim, we entered a battle of the bands in Nashville. It was a blues contest and we were not a blues band, but we went anyway. To our surprise, we won against some pretty tough competion. After that, we got some pretty good gigs, still writing our music and expanding our song list. We recorded our first album ("CRAZY"). It consisted of ten songs, but with no backing, it was a trophy.

A few months down the road, and the band broke up for about a year. Then our singer, Robert Burns, got a call from the booking agent in charge of the talent at an annual "Cinco de Mayo" gig we had played in years past. Robert called all the players to see if we would be interested in doing the gig, and most of us were ready (this was a pretty lucrative gig!). However, due to illness, our orginal bass player could not go on, and our orginal keyboard player had decided to pursue other ventures. Robert located bassist Cliff McCormack, with whom he had played in previous bands, who agreed to come on board. The bandmembers then decided to try and play the gig three piece with lead vocals.

We rented a rehearsal space at Red Alert Studios (www.redalertstudios.com) in Gallatin, and studio engineer Shawn Conley said that he knew of a keyboard player/guitarist who might be interested as well. After just one reheasal, Lance Hammond was immediately added to the band, and The Tribe was reborn. This time with more determination than ever!

So there you have it: Our new album "TWO COMETS IN THE SKY". The new Tribe consists of Robert Burns {Vocals}, James Kemp {Drums}, Cliff McCormack {Bass}, Lance Hammond {Keyboards, Guitar, Vocals}, Donnie Gregory {Guitar, Vocals}. We could write separate bios, but for the sake of your time, we just say "Listen to the Music."
