13 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Roots Rock, ROCK: Jam-band
Details:
Formed in the winter of 2003 in New Paltz, NY, The Trapps are an adventurous, American Rock and Roll Band led by Sean Schenker (songwriter, lead vocals, guitar), Warren Gold (lead guitar, slide guitar), and Jason Sarubbi (backing vocals, bass).
The Trapps band name derives from a particular area of the Shawangunk Mountain Range outside of New Paltz, a world-renowned spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Rock Climbing canât even be conceived without rock. Mountains are usually formed by the collision of the Earthâs crust. Symbolically this represents the different musical influences uniting the band. The Trapps = Solid Rock.
Aligning their sound with the bluesy jam-rock tradition of southern favorites like the Black Crowes, while reaching deep into areas of musical challenge like Neil Young, The Trapps fuse concise songwriting with an ability to freely explore the boundaries of song, sound and improvisation. The mixture results in a finely balanced presentation of modern pop sensibility with an ability to jam within a structure â always benefiting the presentation of âthe songâ itself.
For the past 2 years, The Trapps have been hard at work creating material for their self-produced, full-length debut CD titled âGood Luck or Goodbye?â What started at bass player Jason Sarubbiâs home recording studio as 21 rough demo tracks, has been dissected, analyzed and re-analyzed to a trim 13 tracks that round out the terrific new record. Stylistically, it is first and foremost a rock record, but sonically it runs much deeper than simply âgenericâ rock music. The new CD pulses with an extremely diverse catalogue of songs that showcase the bands strong lyrical content & songwriting, wailing guitar solos & solid musical interplay & jams.
Good Luck or Goodbye? has not only been a labor of love for the three founding members of the band, it has been a full-time commitment. Self-producing a full-length record is a daunting task, and to accomplish the goal, The Trapps used a great deal of talented friends & musicians to pull it off. Ross Rice, a renowned Memphis keyboardist & producer offered more than a helping hand, as did Jeremy Lawton (keyboardist/pedal steel guitar player for Big Head Todd & The Monsters), Marc Dalio (drummer), Jeremy Mage (keyboardist) & Keith Schenker (flute). Tom Lewis, an engineer & producer friend from Athens, Georgia assisted in the mixing & mastering of the record.
The past year has been a great one in the land of The Trapps. They have shared the stage in a sold-out show with Blues Traveler and recently opened 100.1 WDSTs multi-band jam rock festival Mountain Jam 2006 with the likes of My Morning Jacket, Gov't Mule, Mike Gordon & Spearhead to name a few. With their 100 commitment to honest Rock and Roll & the new CD Good Luck or Goodbye? The Trapps are simply destined for great things.
