Tracy began singing at the tender age of 2 and a half at her grandfathersâ church. At age 13, she formed her own group âTracy and the Melodiesâ which consisted of three back-up singers. Tracy and the Melodies traveled extensively every weekend across the East Coast appearing on live radio broadcasts and making television appearances. Tracy wrote and arranged all of the songs that the group performed. In 1984, Tracy joined Rev. Ernest Davis Jr.âs Wilmington Chester Mass Choir where she became a lead singer and recorded on several albums. During this season, Tracy was featured on several albums as the lead singer. Tracy could be heard belting out notes on tunes such as: âIf I Ever Needed The Lord Beforeâ, âJust Like Thatâ, âAll Is Wellâ, âOver Thereâ, and âHeâll Give You Peaceâ. In 1989, Tracy became a background vocalist for Tramaine Hawkins, which was her first experienced tour outside of the United States, Bahamas and London. In 1991, Tracy began touring with the renowned Billy Paul (Me and Mrs. Jones) in the secular arena where she traveled South America, Brazil and Japan several times a year. Also, in the secular arena, she has shared the same stage with Earth Wind & Fire, Foreigners, Lou Rawls, Deneice Williams, Patti LaBelle, Jennifer Holliday, and Peabo Bryson.
In 1992, Tracy appeared on the national Stellar Awards for Gospel Music where she led âOver There â in which newspapers described as âA Pew Shaking Experienceâ. Tracy released her first live recording in 1994 entitled, âTracy Shy Liveâ where she performed every weekend for four years. Tracy has received numerous awards and citations. One being, The Peoplesâ Choice Awards from the metropolitan area and is currently an honorary member of the Tri State Gospel Music Association. She also won first place in the KFC national competition in the category âBest Gospel Vocalistâ. Since then, she has become a Johnny Thompson Singers, which is considered âtop billingâ in Europe and has traveled in Europe, Scandinavian Countries, and South America. Tracy has shared the stage with every named artist there is such as: Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, CeCe Winans, Dottie Peoples, Vickie Winans, The Winans, James Cleveland, Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Tramaine Hawkins, and Kim Burrell just to name a few. In 1998, Tracy recorded her second live recording. In 2001, her third release entitled, âHighly Favoredâ was released.
Tracyâs theatrical training experience includes: Wilmington Theater of Performing Arts, and Philadelphia Freedom Theater. The productions include Dream Girls, the role of âEffieâ, Delawareâs Best of Broad where Tracy performed the leading role in the hit play in Europe âMaster I Want To Live,â and most recently, last year. Tracy performed in the hit stage plays, âWoman Thou Art Loosedâ and âBehind Closed Doorsâ written by the world renowned Bishop T. D. Jakes and Tyler Perry.
