A minx can be defined as a bold woman: a piranha can be defined as a ferocious creature. The collaboration of Minx and Pirahnahead, Animal Trax, embodies the core of these definitions. Relentless bass, self-assured beats, fierce melodies and instrumentation come to life through this pair of musical powerhouses.

From the early 90s Jennifer Witcher, a.k.a. Minx set out to fill her life and the lives of others with her passion: music. As a DJ, she has performed with talents such as Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Richie Hawtin, and John Acquivia. The self-proclaimed âDiva of the Dance Floorâ has had her DJ talents showcased in several international music hot-spots: Japan, New York, Spain, Germany, and Miami-just to name a few. In 1996, Minx decided to expand her musical spectrum by launching Women On Wax, a collective of women DJs. Soon afterward, this cooperative evolved into Women On Wax Recordings. W.O.W., as it is affectionately known, has provided a home for some of Detroitâs much sought after artists and producers such as Minx herself, Diviniti and Animal Traxâs own Pirahnahead. More recently, Women On Wax Recordings grew to envelop a subsidiary label specifically geared to Minxâs first love - hard and funky house music: W.O.W. B.A.M (Women On Wax Banginâ Ass Music). All of the releases on both of Minxâs labels have been met with critical acclaim and dance floor delight.

Keeping dancers happy is something that Maurice âPirahnaheadâ Herd takes very seriously. He grew up studying some of the greatest musicians to take the stage like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Prince and used his admiration for them to allow his musical talent to flourish. While a guitarist at heart, Pirahna has taught himself to play several other instruments including keyboards, bass, and drums. With the popularity of disco and dance music, Pirahna began to study the great DJs of the time. Holding Detroit DJ Ken Collier as a mentor, Pirahna developed a love for playing music as well as creating it. Having had the opportunity to tour internationally as a musician with groups like Enemy Squad, Dub Culture, Charm Farm, various incarnations of the P-Funk All-Stars, and artists on the Mahogani Music label, and the chance to be showcased as a featured DJ in places like Japan, Germany, and London, Pirahna brings a wealth of musical experience and knowledge to the table. The soul and zeal that can be heard in the music he was raised on can be heard clearly in his work.

When two people share such a clear vision and adoration for music come together, only wondrous things can be produced. Animal Traxâs first release âDeep Structures EPâ, displayed what true collaboration is all about. The tracks on the release allow both Minx and Pirahna to be true to their preferred style and taste in music while complimenting the differences in each other. The same is true of their live performances. All one can expect is a well-rounded tour of styles and genres. When it comes to musical potential the future is bright for Animal Trax: guaranteed to leave a definite imprint on the world of soulful and funky electronic music.
