Sunshine of Your Love.mov

For INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE players: a Quicktime video tutorial focusing on "Sunshine of Your Love." Adapted by Adam Gussow from Cream's live version (late 1960s). The 24-bar head in this lesson closely tracks Gussow's performance on KICK AND STOMP, his debut solo CD. (You can purchase the entire album at the URL below. This lesson is ideal for intermediate and advanced players who are looking to broaden their approach. It has a straight-time, rock-blues feel rather than a more traditional shuffle groove.

Technical challenges include a number of 2 and 3 draw bends, on-the-upbeat phrasing, and several overblows. (Gussow offers a non-overblow workaround for those who haven't yet mastered this technique.) In order to solo over this groove, players will probably want to develop some facility at 1/16th note patterns. Gussow not only works you carefully through the head, but he offers some ideas about soloing.
