"He's a red man, singing the black mans' blues, living in a white man's world!â (from his song Coloursâ). MURRAY PORTER is Mohawk from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory in southern Ontario. Through his blues he tells the Aboriginal side of history with a mixture of country, blues and humour. Murray is a self-taught, singer, songwriter and piano player, who's spent the last 30 years playing the blues throughout the world, spreading his unique style of foot-stomping, hand clapping, NATIVE BLUES PIANO!! He has been compared to the likes of Dr. John, Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Elton John and Delbert McClinton.

Murray started playing music as a teenager, in bars and nightclubs throughout Ontario and Western New York. He was a 2005 JUNO nominee for âFull Circleâ with his former group THE PAPPY JOHNS BAND, and Canadian Aboriginal Music Award winner for âBest Bluesâ. Now living in North Vancouver, British Columbia, he has recorded his next solo CD Songs Lived & Life Playedâ, which was released on September 26, 2011.

Since moving to Capilano Indian Reserve in North Vancouver over five years ago, Murray has become a full-time musician, having opened for B.B. KING, ETTA JAMES, MARCIA BALL, and sharing the stage with MAVIS STAPLES, IVAN NEVILLE & DUMPSTAFUNK, PURA FE, DEREK MILLER and THE FUNK BROTHERS, (twice)â¦to name a few incredibly talented musicians heâs been honoured to be on the same show with.

Murrayâs performed at festivals in B.C., including, the Vancouver Folk Festival, Nanaimo Blues, Salmon Arm Roots & Blues, plus over 20 performances during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. He also performed in both seasons of Rez Bluez on the Aboriginal Peoples Television, and wrote and sings the theme song. Murrayâs voice was also heard on the Aboriginal Welcoming Song for 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies. By invitation, Murrayâs performed at the Lincoln Centerâs 23rd Annual Roots of American Music Festivalâ, The Kennedy Centerâs Millennium Stageâ and the National Museum of the American Indian, in the United States. Murray performs over a hundred dates a year all over North America/Turtle Island.

The long awaited CD release by Porter, with producer, Rick Boulter of Cosmic Pig Studios, was recorded on the Capilano Rez. He serves as co-producer alongside Boulter, who is also his guitar player. Porter was very much in control in all creative aspects of production of his new release, which features eleven new songs. With his band of seasoned musicians, HELENE DUGUAY on bass and harmonies, RICK BOULTER on guitar and CHRIS âTHE WRISTâ NORDQUIST on drums, along with guests RENAE MORRISEAU (from MâGirl) on harmonies, and the wicked harmonicas of CHRISTOPHER ALLEN and DAVID HOERL (of The Twisters). All harmonies and cool chord concepts were arranged by HELENE DUGUAY. Together, theyâve created a soulfully blues album thatâs destined to be a classic!

Well known for his satirical point of view in his songs about Aboriginal experiences in life, on this album heâs also written heart-felt songs dedicated to the Indian Residential & Boarding School Survivors, Is Sorry Enough?â (co-written with Elaine Bomberry), and the murdered and missing women of Canada in Since She Went Awayâ. No one can sing a love ballad quite like Murray Porter, and heâs got a few new love songs that will soon become favourites with his fans. But he still manages to squeeze in a couple of cheeky blues songs with Rez Bluezâ and Dog Houseâ (co-written with Josh Miller of The Pappy Johns Band).
