2008 Canadian Superstar winner Sherry Anne Fulgencio is a Rocky Mountain based lyrical mixture of Gwen Stefani and Paulina Rubio with the vocal potential of Broadway actress Lea Michelle. The Filipino-Canadian singer-songwriter launched her debut CD âDonât Hateâ on January 17, 2009 in Calgary, Alberta featuring all original music including the title single track that won her the national competition. The CD sold 300 copies alone at its debut party at Bootleggers Bar in Calgary. A month later she was featured as an emerging immigrant talent from Calgary for Canadian Immigrant Magazine (www.canadianimmigrant.ca). Remarkably, Sherry Anne just recently discovered her talent for songwriting when she was noticed in July 2008 on YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=75fWYqQNVc0) by Canadian Superstar organizers seeking upcoming singers. Sherry Anne had recorded several videos of her past performances on Filipino language TV shows and uploaded them to share with friends and family. The videos showcased Sherry Anne with her compositions.
Sherry Anneâs remarkable win at Canadian Superstar 2008, a national open-call singing competition sponsored by the music website Top 40 Charts, was even more remarkable, thanks to YouTube, where she posted her performances, giving her an edge â and a way to connect with lots of new fans. A key component of the Canadian Superstar competition is that contestants perform original material. The event was held in Calgary with 10 contestants evaluated in the categories of singing and composing. Sherry Anneâs confidence got a boost thanks to the judgeâs encouragement. Plus, people she encountered began to tell her that they wanted to hear her music over and over again or would cry to the words.
Sherry Anne was already a seasoned entertainment and media professional by her early twenties before the life changing moment when Canadian Superstar invited her to sing. In 2006 she became a Public Representative, DJ and Announcer for Pinoy Radio 94.7FM in Calgary. Simultaneously, she was an on-air host for TV Pilipino on channel 92 who interviewed celebrities that came to Calgary for concerts. While balancing her various media duties Sherry Anne is an ongoing emcee in and around Calgary singing at parties, weddings, concerts and shows. Alberta singers and music groups have had Sherry Anne as their opening act which lead to a guest star role for Calgaryâs Talent 09. To date, she has been a guest star for GMA 7, an international TV show in the Philippines, where she performed her original song âNever Give Upâ, her first ever composition. Not only has Canada (Mabuhay Calgary newspaper) and the Philippines (Pinoy Times, Kabayan News) recognized the natural born talent that Sherry Anne possesses but the California-based Filipinas magazine listed her in their June 2009 issue as an upcoming Filipino performer. On December 2010, Sherry Anne was asked to represent Canada for the " DZMM Global Pinoy Singing Idol" in the Philippines. She guested in a few popular radio/tv shows of ABS-CBN chanel 2 such as Umagang Kay Ganda, Showtime, The Buzz, Tambayan 101.9 and DZMM radio show. She also recorded the DZMM jingle along with the other contestants from different parts of the world that was played everymorning they aired the DZMM show. Sherry Anne also got to sing with a few famous artists from the Philippines during the "DZMM Global Pinoy Singing Idol" such as Miguel Mendoza, Laarni, Bugoy Drillon, Rachel Alejandro and many more. Charities and Fundraising events is something that Sherry Anne truly supports and have been a part of.


Sherry Anne is a rising triple threat who began her career belting out tunes to a karaoke machine in the Philippines at age four. From the day she began singing Sherry Anneâs bubbly and naturally happy demeanor was infectious. Before leaving the Philippines at age 10 she was already entertaining at family gatherings. Born with an innate musical capacity she learned to play the piano by ear at 12 after immigrating to Canada. It was in her new country that Sherry Anne hot serious about her abilities and began performing at church recitals, parties, and community events. By junior high she was active in drama clubs and had a local following in Calgaryâs Filipino community. With her strong confidence and sense of self Sherry Anne dived into the local entertainment scene without hesitation. She was clear: she was going to make a mark on the small Rocky Mountain town before conquering bigger markets.
Her inborn drive has always been balanced with a deep sense of appreciation for those closest to her. She is very grateful for the opportunities that being an immigrant to Canada has provided which shines through in her music. Colleagues and supporters describe Sherry Anne on and off stage as having a down-to-earth sweet disposition whether sheâs belting out ballads, shopping, composing in English or Tagalog, or doing high energy karaoke song and dance moves.
In May 2009 the John Robert Powers agency became Sherry Anneâs talent representative for both Canada and the United States. Shortly after joining the agencyâs talent rooster Sherry Anne auditioned for I-Pop (International Presentation of Performers) along with over 500 talents. She was one of the 20 who made the final cut. In January 2010 Sherry Anne will make her American debut in Hollywood, California in front of managers and agents in the music industry. Canada has produced international superstars like Bryan Adams, Michael Bublé, Celine Dion, Nelly Furtado, and now itâs time to stay tuned to Sherry Anne Fulgencio!
Just like another small town girl from Michigan born from to entertain the world who showed up in New York with a few dollars but loads of confidence, Sherry Anne says, âIn the music business, you need to have a thick skin. My confidence is the most important protection I have against people who donât want me to succeed. I am all about respect and love, so I am not changing.â
