I had never considered of writing songs in English. It simply happened one day: a phrase and a melody kept buzzing around my mind. That buzz became "Don't call me my love". The freedom of that birth resonate in my voice, that I feel free as I was a soul interpreter. I was looking for a personal singing style, so I felt I had to get rid of the Italian jazz approach, that I was feeling too academic, letâs say.
But nothing grows from nothing. Led by my passion for Jazz music - and aware that I didn't have a azz vocal training back-ground - I started to listen and study to British and Scandinavian music: I loved the way in they mixed jazz with pop, soul, or electronic music melted together as in a magic potion
I followed my feelings and discovered I was strongly inspired. After a few weeks I composed most of the songs that you can find in my cd. I strongly wanted Jazz to be my attraction pole. Starting from that, I picked some strongly characterising elements from other genres: the acoustic trip-trop of Give it a meaning, or Sweetest thingâs ska, or the country blues echoes of I relived my dreams. I just let them naturally harmonise with the rest, with no judgment and no prejudices, I would say.
I luckily met Alberto Parmegiani, Vincenzo Bardaro e Andrea Colella quite soon on my path; three great jazzmen, versatile, full of energy and creativity. They arranged the songs, trying to catch my suggestions and interpret my feelings for each of them. In April 2010 we recorded and the outcome is this Cd.
