After re-christening himself as âThe Third Coming Of Funk,â XL Middleton is back with his latest offering, The Hedonistic Mixtape. As XL himself says about the project, âPeople ask me all the time what I mean by âHedonisticâ. Listen, itâs just a more complicated way of saying, this is some party music Iâm giving you.â Full of funked-out basslines and rich chord arrangements, The Hedonistic Mixtape is a lot of what people have come to expect from XL, topped off with a whole lot of the unexpected. He goes the safe route on âLet It Get Into You,â twisting Tom Browneâs âFunkinâ For Jamaicaâ into another Cali anthem, but on âThe Medicineâ he takes it in another direction, sprinkling his signature sound with some reggae influence.
