FOLK: Gentle
Details:
There is not much story behind my song writing. I grew up playing classical piano and when I was 14 sort of naturally began creating songs on the piano and guitar. Though I would just sing whatever words came to me, there arose a pattern in which those words reflected my inner experiences and realizations. As I grew, the content on the lyrics reflected the deepening within me and my relationships with others. My journey as a student of psychology (I am working on my Ph.D.) and Sufism (mystical spirituality) has certainly played a role in shaping that development and what I've received from both tends to come out through my music. I would also wager that the other pieces of my identity--as, for instance, a modern dancer, Muslim, and energy healer--have seeped into what and how I write as well. Though I've never been interested in being a professional musician, I've had the chance to sing for so many beautiful people who keep their hearts so open to me and to my music. I really love recording with those people in mind, and possible others like them that I may never have a chance to meet. I know my music is not for everybody, but for the people who connect with it, I feel grateful for the depth of that connection.
