Details:
Every rising performer expects to âmake itâ in the intensely competitive music business, but only a few immensely artistic and dedicated individuals ever will. This is the sole dream of millions of souls. A singular hope that that elusive light might if only for a moment shine around their way. Singer-producer-musician Tony Towerz is the electric dreamer, who has transformed his own experience and personal efforts as a recording artist into a meaningful soundtrack for a new generation of performers and music listeners.
Tony is sharp, stylish; richly talented, and is no novice to the entertainment business. The progeny of veteran performers, the Atlanta native attended North Atlanta Preparatory School of the Performing Arts; a reputable public school nestled in the woods of Atlantaâs Buckhead district. In the Margaret Mitchell-esque backdrop of wealth and status, several miles from his southwest Atlanta neighborhood, Tony honed his vocal talents and gained valuable technical skill and theory as a musician and songwriter. North Atlanta armed the young artist with a solid foundation and provided a structured outlet to regularly explore his then maturing musical tastes
Tony loves all genres of music, but has a serious love Jones for R&B music. He is deeply influenced by the soulful sounds of artists like Marvin Gaye, Bobby Brown, and Michael Jackson. Although Tony was a just a young boy during the twilight of Marvinâs career, he proudly admits he longs for the days when the subtle grooves of R&B ruled the airwaves.
âDonât get me wrong, Iâm an MP baby [beat machine; ref. to Akaiâs Midi Production Center, MPC]⦠and I love hip hop,â Tony says, âBut there certain aspects of R&B melodies and what those songs were [written] about⦠even how vocals were recordedâ Iâm talking real singing, not just a bunch of runsâ thatâs what I want to bring back. R&B is definitely more hip hop now, just because hip hop is so dominant.â
Tony is as seasoned on stage and in studio as collards and candied yams in southern kitchens. He has worked with hometown hip hop giants Outkast and Goodie Mob, as well as for R&B legends Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Gerald Levert, and Lionel Ritchie. On occasion, Tony even plays the drums during live performances for percussion legend Sonny Emory, Joi, Sleepy Brown from Organized Noize & Outkast. His current project teams him with childhood friend and local College Park production phenom, Scott Chris. The two music forces form Ultra Recordings, and Tonyâs debut album, Shoâ Yo Luv, will be the first release from the young imprint. Tunes like Tonyâs introspective âPlain Janeâ and the sizzling lead single âFinga Poppinâ, which sit at opposite ends of the song spectrum, are perfect examples of Tonyâs musical dexterity. Dubbing themselves âThe New Millennium Quincy and Michaelâ, the âJordan and Pippen of the Music Industryâ, and the âR&B version of Juicy J & DJ Paulâ both men flow with confidence about Tonyâs upcoming album.
âThis sound can only be described as the embodiment of the struggle of a dreamer.â Tony says. âFor anybody out there trying to achieve a goal and [learning] that it ainât easyâ theyâre gonna dig the record. Then on the flipside itâs just like a lot of different vibes musically. If you like rap, R&B, or whateverâyouâre gonna like my CD. Itâs that hot mix of everything!â
