"Amewuga": Human beings are more important than material things.
This is the result of the great and unique sounds written, arranged and composed by the multi-talented 'Flute Magician' and 'Master Drummer' DELA BOTRI.
Together with his group HEWALE SOUNDS (Hewale means 'STRENGTH' in Ghanaian local language), Dela Botri has managed to expropriate the elements of indigenous Ghanaian and African rhythms to create a new synthesis for the past 15 years. Proving the capabilities of traditional Ghanaian musical instruments by blending them with the one Western instrument used in the group, the keyboard. The keyboard is used with specific tones.
Dela Botri has held numerous workshops and undertaken different activities throughout the years, amongst which in 2004 at the University of Colorado (USA) as an instructor of atenteben; in 2008 he served as a resource person at the World Music Village in Vakeela, Finland; also in 2008, he represented Ghana at the Cuba Disco Music Festival in the capital of Havana; in 2009 and 2010 he was offered a contract as âartist in residenceâ at the Royal Dutch Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands, where he gave seminars, taught over 750 primary students. A special project was realized with the Royal Hague Conservatoryâs Percussion Ensemble âAnumadutchiâ to whom Dela has taught Ghanaian traditional rhythms and which ended in a spectacular performance at the prestigious Lucent Theater in The Hague alongside the groupâs director Mr. Wim Vos.
Dela Botri participated in the International Visitors Leadership Program on invitation of the US Government as a Resident International Artist in August/September 2010. There he exchanged valuable information on Arts and Music in Washington, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Dela Botri has performed and collaborated with several international musicians and groups. These include amongst others, Amandzeba Nat Brew (GH), Gyedu Blay Ambolley (GH), Ebo Taylor (GH), UB40 (UK), Peter Erskine (USA), Dudu Ndiaye Rose (SEN), Wim Vos (NL), Miro Mantere (FIN), Papa Jukka Siokonen (FIN), Mamar Kassey (NIGER), Alain Soler (FR), Andre Jaume (FR), Habib Koite (MALI), Bibi Brew (GH/FR), Levi Silvanie (CUR/NL), Son CC (CUR/CUBA) and many more.
Dela Botri has already travelled over 48 countries around the world by invitation, to perform and teach his natural talent and demonstrate his capabilities. He has also made performance tours to Cote dâIvoire, Algeria, and Libya with Ghanaian local rhythms proponent Amandzeba Nat Brew and his band.
At present Dela Botri has been referred to as âthe Flute Magicianâ and the âKing of Atentebenâ.
A , singer, songwriter, composer, producer and music instructor (former lecturer at the University of Ghana -International Centre for African Music and Dance- between 1996 and 2004) and owner of his own recording studio: âAtenteben Records Ghanaâ.

Their latest album âAMEWUGAâ, launched in May 2010, is a blend of African rhythms and could be categorized in the World Music genre.

The music Dela Botri composes is as versatile and unique as himself. From traditional African music to folk, jazz, caribbean, contemporary and world music rhythms. His music style is not competing or to be compared to others, as a reference though, comparison has been made to music from Salif Keita, Fela Kuti, Habib Koite, and Youssouf Ndour.

"There was no mistaking the Hewale Sounds for anything other than a first-rate music ensemble as the eight-piece outfit treated an appreciative audience to some stirring stuff to mark its 15th anniversary at the Alliance Francaise in Accra last Friday.
'Hewale' in Ga means 'strength' or 'power'. The group on the night demonstrated how strong it was in areas such as composition, versatility and presentation."
