Faena marks Tim Kochâs first full release on the Merck label, but fifth solo album to date. After years of extensive remix work for Merck, including ripping up works by Machine Drum, Proem, Ilkae and Tiki Obmar, he has finally settled in to a release of his own.
Faena attempts to distill the elements that have been featured in all of Tim's previous releases, drawing on a broader range of sounds including acoustic guitars, and female vocal elements. The bulk of the album was written whilst on tour in Europe in late 2004, with a cramped Antwerp loft acting as a makeshift studio. The color and density of that experience shows through in this batch of tracks from this prolific Australian producer. Full of beautiful vocal textures and electronically generated acoustic sounds blended with deep grooves, rich harmonies and strong melodies. Yet another quality IDM full length from the Merck camp.
