Details:
This year's addition of digital distribution has allowed Tweed to expand their fan base to thousands of new fans! Their songs 'Lie For Me' and 'Thought About You' went to #8 and #27 respectively for ALL Adult Alternative music in North America on MP3.COM, with the band's music also getting 200,000 downloads and plays on that site.
When they came to South Florida, U2's tour hired them to play a warm-up show at the Hard Rock Cafe; Tweed has also appeared with Hootie & the Blowfish, Jadestone, and Colin Hay of Men at Work. The band was also featured as an up-and-coming artist on the 'NetMusic Countdown with David Lawrence', a nationwide radio program that features the TOP20 artists in the country.
After years of playing South Florida clubs in different bands, Tweed was formed by long-time friends Jay Whetsel (vox-guitars), John Presti Jr. (drums-backing vox), and Tony Smith (bass) . From the first time Tweed's original music began to take shape it has been driven and uncompromising, with the result being the captivating Stone Prophecy.
Jay's distinctive voice and illustrative lyrics along with the band's engaging talents challenges listeners label them in just one genre of music. To realize their vision, they have drawn from influences of modern and classic rock, jazz and funk. They added the talents of Jonah Goldberg on lead guitar to enhance their unique sound.
After they released their first album, Tweed was one of over 360 bands to enter South Florida's ZETA 94.9 rock radio station's ZETA ROCKS competition, and was one of only 24 chosen for the finals. Kimba, one of ZETA's well-known d.j.'s, turned on to Tweed and played several tracks from Stone Prophecy.
PRESS REVIEWS:
LISTEN.COM's editor writes: 'So radio-ready, it's not a stretch to imagine any of Tweed's warm alternative songs playing in the opening scene of a feel-good, twenty-something sitcom. The vocals wrap around you like a thick fuzzy blanket while the groovin' rhythm, sultry sax and wah-wah powered guitars rock you to sleep.'...
JAM MAGAZINE's Richard Proplesch writes: 'Tweed approaches the adult pop market with novel style ignoring overworked Hootie-isms. Thankfully theres never any meandering scatology since band prefers to use lots of different sonic textures and quick change-up styles.'
