Zepherus

A New Jersey based hard rock-heavy metal band. We had no aspirations to be famous, just to create and play our original music. Back in the late 80's early 90's this was VERY difficult to do. Clubs demanded you pre sell tickets before the show, and if you didn't get enough sold, you didn't play. This was called Pay to Play. Everyone did it, it sucked but until it was illegal to do the clubs did it and we went along with it. Shit man, we just wanted to play, like the rest of the original bands out there, we did what we could to sell sell sell.

In music, Pay to Play describes when a band pays a promoter to play at a certain live show, instead of being paid. Most often a band would do this in an attempt to increase exposure. This is a heavily criticized practice, most famously alleged to occur amongst local metal bands in the 1980's. We were really part of that and it really discouraged us, put a bad taste in your mouth for playing out. Most other bands gave up and played covers, we didn't. We decided we would rather not play than to play covers. And so the corrupt white man has beaten us out of existence.

This band was cutting edge at the time, but never got a record deal to show the world their own brand of hard rock/ heaver metal. Blazing solos, killer baselines and awesome vocals, you are sure to enjoy all of the Zepherus sound!

We played at parties, clubs, fairs, wherever we could to have fun. When your 17, what is cooler than being in a band? (sometimes we got free beer too) This band was part of our lives as we were forging friendships that last a lifetime. We all still talk to each other and remain very good friends. That in itself was worth every note we ever played together.
