The First Straight is a concept album, consisting of 13 songs, all but 2 of which are instrumentals. Styles range from hypnotic and pulsing electronic sounds to shoegazing drones and rock influences. With the albumâs crossfades, the different musical soundscapes flow into each other, giving the album a unified sound that is hard to pin down into a specific genre.
Zachary Lemon has had many musical roles in the past few years: guitarist for Shady Angel, sole member of the punk rock band The Drownies and solo performer. Each of the different musical projects has allowed him to explore a different voice for musical expression. When it came time to release his first solo album, experimentation and exploration was the motivation.
