Zack Montez took his first guitar lesson at the age of eight. The music of the 70âs was a huge influence on him at a young age. Bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead etc. inspired his passion for music and effected him in such a powerful way that he convinced his parents to buy him a guitar and enroll him in guitar lessons.
At the age of fifteen, Zack began to seriously study guitar and play in garage bands with friends. Around the age of nineteen, Zack formed a band with a high school friend and drummer called âAbsolute Rainâ. They played college parties at Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. The highlight of âAbsolute Rainâ was headlining an all day music benefit for the Amnesty International Organization.
Zack wanted to seriously study music so he enrolled at the Musicians Institute of Technology in Hollywood. He graduated from M.I. in 1994 and soon after graduation he moved to Huntington Beach. A year after his move to Huntington, Zack joined a hardcore band with a strong âKornâ influence called âDispatchâ. With âDispatchâ he played events such as, Jackâs Surfboardâs Skateboard demo and opened for âFlotsam Jetsamâ at the Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood. During this same time Zack was corresponding with a classmate from GIT, Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson sent a demo to Zack of some songs he had written Zack liked the songs, so he convinced Chris to move out to Huntington in order to develop a project to be signed.
For the first couple of years Zack and Chris played professionally as an acoustic duo cover band. Zack and Chris played in clubs and for private parties from Hermosa Beach to San Diego, while at the same time finding the members to form their original project âThe Soundbodiesâ. With âThe Soundbodiesâ Zack recorded a full length album âFlow With The Goâ and played major Orange County and Hollywood clubs including the Galaxy Theatre, Coach House, Whisky A Go Go, and the Roxy Theatre.
In the summer of 2001 Zack joined the Hollywood based, Electro-Rock band âRURIKâ. With âRURIKâ Zack enjoyed headlining Hollywood clubs such as, the Gig, the Whiskey, the Roxy and the Keyclub.
After playing with RURIK for a year and a half and recording a full-length album, Zack decided to venture out on his own and focus on his solo career. While recording the RURIK album âOrder of Chaosâ, Zack met producer Rudy Haeusermann. When Rudy first heard Zackâs solo music, he was blown away by how different it was from the heavy, electro-rock sound of RURIK. Soon after Zack shared his music with Rudy, they began to record the five tracks that make up Zackâs first solo EP, âSongs From a Lifeâ,

Zack Montez is a very energetic and outgoing person on and off stage and engages his audience with his vibrant, intense performances. His passion for music and performing is evident every time he picks up a guitar. He continues to be influenced by music old and new and is still just as excited to play music as when he first picked up a guitar at eight years old.
