âI couldnât stop listening to it! I had never heard anything like it. All of those wonderful Bible stories that I had either read or heard in Church, told in songs." said Reverend Willie Boone.
"I played that record over and over again. Everybody should listen to that CD. It's different. On the song "A Man Called Jesus" for example, where he says "wipe the tears from your eyes, Jesus sure did rise." It's beautiful, because you never leave Jesus in the grave. He rose with "All Power of Heaven and Earth in his hands" I could go on and on about each song but I'll just say that If you go to Church or read the Bible you will love it. If you donât go to Church or read the Bible, it will make you want to. The songs are uplifting, they really make you feel good, give you strength to run on a while longer, see what the end is going to be. Don't take my word for it. Listen for yourself and I think you will agree that they are truly inspired.â Reverend Boone, Wartts closet friend and someone who song with him for years added, "Andrew is a Bible student he loves reading the Bible. He got that love of the Bible from a man named Ernest Turner. He would come by their house when they were just kids and tell them all these different stories. Once Andrew heard the story of Lazarus, He was in love with the Bible. So, when he writes songs he includes a lot of Bible quotes in them."
"He loves writing and arranging songs. Always did, listen at his arrangement on "Two Wings", it's sweet. I've heard some of the material on the CD they're releasing next year. I don't know how they came up with some of the lyrics and arrangements but it's going to be a hot CD. Talking about arrangements, I remember once Andrew brought a song to rehearsal that he and Donny Hathaway had arranged. It was a beautiful arrangement, but it was so complicated, with all the different chords, twists and turns on the vocals that we just decided not to sing it. Man we had some great times together, had a great group of Christian guys. Andrew handled the sweet stuff and I took care of the hard stuff.â
Wartts recalls those days, âWe were young men and it was a great group. The Booneâs are one of the nicest families youâll ever meet. All of them are very talented singers, Willie, A.B., his brother, and his sister Elnora. I donât know anyone in that family that is not a good singer. Just naturally talented. Willie and Elnora remind me of what Claude Jeter said about Spencer Taylor. You would not want to be the house with finer lead singers than those two unless you were in their group.â Wartts also remembers the song that he and Hathaway arranged, âMy Soul Looks Back And Wonder How I Got Over.â Donny and my brother Charles were good friends, he lived just a few doors from us on Thomas Street and I took the song down to Donny's house to see how it would sound with music. He began playing it on the Piano and started showing me all the places we could take the vocals and use different chords. It was unbelievable. Donny was a musical genius.
"I do enjoy writing and arranging songs. I wanted to do something different with Gospel music and still maintain the essence of what Gospel music is to me and that is to make people feel good about life, to give hope, renew faith in God and to believe that, There Is A God Somewhere. The truth is that all of the songs on that Album was written for the express purpose of getting some major Gospel group to record them. I wanted to be a Songwriter. However, no one was interested so I just decided to record them. I mean we sent those songs out to so many people and couldn't get anyone to record not a single one. Now, as life goes, shortly after we recorded the album I was approached by a representative for a major Rhythm and Blues star who is now deceased. But he was a big star. Everyone knows his name. He was interested in doing a gospel album. He liked what he heard on "There Is A God Somewhere" and wanted me to write the material for him. I began to think that maybe the songs were pretty good."
