ROCK: Acoustic, POP: with Live-band Production
Details:
Kim Fontaine's unique style of folk-rock, with a hint of jazz and country all mixed in one, is unforgettable. Coming from a family that loved music, Kim took up playing guitar and singing at an early age. With over 20 years of experience as a bass player, guitarist and backup vocalist, she has performed regularly with various bands since she was 17. With encouragement from friends and family, in 2003, Kim became a solo artist.
Kim's bluesy songwriting style, lyrics and haunting melodies come from the heart. Her songs have deep-seeded meanings with an incredibly natural polished quality. Her love of life makes it easy for her audience to relate to her songs and she brings her own personal philosophy into her music, baring her soul for all to see. Kim writes about love, forgiveness, thankfulness, tenderness, yearning, desire and hope. Her songwriting (and musicianship) has been influenced by the likes of Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, Emmy Lou Harris, Steve Earl, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, Peter Gabriel, the Beatles, The Who, Heart, U2, ... as well as Saskatchewan-based artists such as Wide Mouth Mason, The Northern Pikes, Eileen Laverty and David J Taylor.
Kim's live performances are engaging, inspirational, exhilarating and leave you with an appreciation for the hard work, dedication and talent it takes to be an artist. Her smoky voice is unique and refreshing, and falls into the stylings of Tracy Chapman, Lucinda Williams, raunchy rockinâ Melissa Etheridge and Janis Joplin - with a sprinkling of sweet, jazzy Norah Jones.
Her hard work has been met with success as her album "Morning Pages", released in 2004 (produced by David J. Taylor and Shaun Verreault) has been heard on the airwaves throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta. Her song "Angel" has been licensed for television programs that have been broadcast nationally and regionally on CBC, APTN and SCN.
"Life Happens" Kim's latest release was funded in part by RAWLCO Radio through their their 10K20 initiative. The album features 11 cuts.
