Details:
A Miami resident for thirteen years, Karen Rae was born in Odessa, Texas to a family with deep musical roots. The youngest of nine children, from the age of one, she was performing on stage as part of her familyâs singing group. Their performance credits included singing at the 1973 Kerrville Folk Festival (where they shared the stage with performers such as Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary fame) and Willie Nelsonâs Annual 4th of July Picnic in 1972 & 1973. The group disbanded in 1978, but Karen continued her musical training by participating in chorus groups and musical theater in Texas.
After moving to Miami from California in 1992, Karen was busy raising her two children. In the fall of 2000, she decided on a whim to audition for the part of Nellie Forbush in a local production of "South Pacific". She got the part, and the rest, as they say, is history. One thing began to lead to another, and while working on "South Pacific", she got a call from Susan Shane-Linder, a friend and local childrenâs singer/songwriter, asking her to sing on her second CD, "Singinâ With Susan, Too!" Susanâs producer, Paul Hoyle (a 2004 Latin Grammy winner), subsequently utilized Karenâs talents on Susanâs third CD, "Shabbat! Singinâ With Susan", and harpist, Marcos Vegaâs, Christmas CD, "Christmas Joy", on which she sings the title song. Karenâs other performance credits include Gertie Cummings in a 2003 production of "Oklahoma!" and Irena Synkova in a 2006 production of "I Never Saw Another Butterfly".
Finally, in 2006, Karen decided it was time to concentrate on her singing career full-time. She contacted Paul Hoyle in February, and the two began working on a CD of love song standards. The result is "At Last⦠A collection of timeless love songs". The CD encompasses fifty years of love songs from George and Ira Gershwinâs "Someone To Watch Over Me", (written in 1926 for the Broadway musical, "Oh, Kay!") to Anne Murrayâs hit, "I Just Fall In Love Again", written in 1977. The compact disc was released September 2006 with a concert to launch the CD to be held November 12, 2006 in Miami.
