Description:

(ID 1576403)
Like that of a Steinway piano, there is dark and bright dynamic contrast, and some may even say beauty. Subtle jazz and classical influences keep the music driving and filled with emotion, whether happy, sad, angry, or lackadaisical.

A Bit On the Band:

What Four is a four piece band based out of Grayslake, Illinois a northern suburb of Chicago. The band explores every aspect of the rock spectrum by taking subtle cues from styles such as funk, jazz, blues, and classical. Though they are a rock band in the classic sense, they draw on influences ranging from Spoon and Muse to Miles Davis and Lee Morgan to Chopin and Gershwyn.

Some of the band's accomplishments include gracing the stages of big name Chicago venues including House Of Blues, and Metro. Back in 2004 the band took first place at the Illinois Teen Battle of the Bands competition at the IL State Fair in Springfield, IL.

Thumbs Up:

"Still in high school, but three years into their careers already, What Four seem awfully serious about this whole music industry business. Their songs are solid, their website is professional, and they even have someone snapping high class photos of them already - is there anything they can't do? Well, they don't have a record contract quite yet, but that may soon be eclipsed if they tour more. The four members of the band have varying musical interests and it shows. The driving piano and long musical interlude in "Velvet Sky" wonderfully shows their burgeoning versatility. "In My Sleep" features a kind of beat you would have heard circa the 1940's; and "Optimist's Nightmare" is a fine piece of song craft. You can almost feel the determination emanating from the speakers; they are making good music that bumps up against the past in a manner that will surely gain fans with more exposure". - Nate Roth, Static Multimedia
