joey mwr link at a show they did together in the late 50s.he was moved with link's raw guitar sounds and originality and took his recordings of rumble and raw hide with him when he went in the army.he was stationed at a.f.n.berlin and introduced his german audiences to the new sound of link wray and the wray-men.when he returned to the states in the early 60s,he hung around wray's shack three trak in accokeek maryland and started playing on some of link's records that were released on swan like....weekend.....run chicken,run and run boy,run,throught the 60s they became great friends and even did some shows together with joey as a guest wray-man joining doug wray on drums and shorty horton on bass.toward the end of the 60s,link suggested joey change his style to a harder rough sound and offered to write and record this album with him.it was recorded in baltimore by joey's friend,dave smith in 1969 and 1970.jimmy velvet,a friend of the family agreed to release it on his music city label in nashville.joey says,'i love you link and will miss you.thank you for calling me brother and helping me make this my favorite album.you are my mentor,friend and hero and i will try to follow in your footsteps,making my music,listening to the voice in my head....the voices that want to be free....because of you...i am'...joey welz
