Details:
Oklahoma born and raised, Mitch Walking Elk is of Native American decent. He is an enrolled member of the Southern Cheyenne& Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma as well as part Hopi and Choctaw. A vastly under-recognized singer, song writer and recording artist, Mitch came on to the music scene professionally in the mid 80's with the release of his first recording Dreamer, a love ballad, followed by recordings, 2 "Indians" also available through CD Baby,3-Ain't No Simple Thing",& 4-Peace With Dingnity, all of which are songs of social commentary/protest citing issues of Native peoples struggles, politics, and the environment. Recording number 5, a Blues recording titled "Time For A Woman" won Mitch Best Blues Recording at the 2005 Indian Summer Festival Music Award and challenges the "Folk Singer/Musician" label he has acquired and greatly reveals only previously slightly touched upon musical talents. He has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Colombia, South America as well as having been on 12 European tours. Mitch is a nationally reknown singer/songwriter/musician/recording artist, political and environmental activist and advocate for the rights of Indigenous people world wide and on stage he has been described as a musical explosion. Mitch has never had an agent, manager or public relations person and with the exception of his first two recordings which were co-produced with the assistance of Boyd Bristow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and teeming up with Wade Fernandez, Menominee Native from Wisconsin who accompanied Mitch musically for years he has been on his own. He recently acted in a soon to be released movie titled "Come And Get Your Love" an independant production. Mitch plays a Dakota Chief in a modern day setting. Of his first acting role in a movie Mitch says, " It just happened. Twelve years ago a friend told me that he dreamed I was in a movie and here it is. I felt right at home on the set I hope I get to do more." Mitch is currently working on two additional recordings, one country and one blues that he works on when time and finances allow and those recordings of course will be released sometime in the future.
