Wakeland
We started out in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At the time we were just a group of friends getting together to play some music. At first, we were content playing covers and partying. As our crowds grew, however, we began to work up original material which evolved into six songs and led to our first recorded EP Cassette, "Nothing Lasts Forever".
Little did we know this would be the start of a ten plus year career for all of us. The three of us have been together throughout this rollercoaster ride. Despite several changes with our bass players, the core of our band remains constant: Brad {guitar and principal songwriter}, Chris {vocals and guitar} and Shane {drums}. We recorded our albums "Wanting" in 1992 and "To See The Sun" in 1994, both turning into very successful independent releases. These releases were so successful in fact, we were signed to a major label record deal by Giant Records, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. While on Giant we released our third album "Magnetic" {1995}... it was our only album with them and let's just say we learned a lot from that experience. After a gruelling couple of years {of touring, touring, touring and touring} with the label we decided to pull back a little and try and remember why we started the band, which didn't take much. We went to work and released an acoustic album "Stripped" {1998}. It was a blast to make and once again, independently, we found success selling 8,000 copies of the album at our shows. Following "Stripped" we went right back into the studio and recorded the self-entitled "Wakeland" in 1998. For that album we toured regionally, returning to the cities that had fostered our growth in the early days. But, we were still searching for that drive and desire we had in the days of our first two albums.
Obviously, since the story continues, in the year following the release of "Wakeland" we again rediscovered our love for being in this band. For the past two years we have been playing sparingly {just enough to test our new songs out on a live audience} as we toiled in the studio over our next release. Our hard work paid off when we released our sixth and best studio album, "Blur". This album is the album Magnetic could have been... our bright shining star and hopefully the building block for many more years of creating and performing music.
